type j front problems

i'm having trouble getting the bumper, fender and lights to line up. here's some pictures to show what i'm talking about.

in this picture i've circled the overhang between the fender and the bumper. this is about the same on both sides.

here's a better picture of the misalignment and overhang.

passenger side.

i am using aftermarket fenders. i'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. the passenger side fender lines up very well with the rest of the car but the drivers side will need a little work. also, i haven't realigned the hood yet.

if i can get the bumper to line up with the fenders and the lights in place correctly i believe the rest won't be very hard. i just can't seem to get this bumper though.

any suggestions?

well it looks to be that where the fenders and bumper meet, the flat part of the fender right there is longer than the bumper part so no matter how you line it up, its gonna be off on one side or another

here's a picture of the car the bumper came off of. so i know it can line up. i think the problem is probably my aftermarket fenders. i should probably hit a junkyard and see if i can find some 00-02 fenders. maybe that would help.

Gotta be those fenders for sure. Mine lined up fine once I cut away 3/4 of the crush guard with a reciprocating saw ...

I am having the same exact problem with my car as well using the jbody bumper on Z3 fiberglass fenders.

>.< it makes me disappointed.

Could it also be the conversion lights?

That's what I was thinking as I was reading the post and checking out his profile. That's a 2000 and up Type J and his car is a older than that...I think it will not line up unless he gets some 2000 an up fender?

Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?

supposedly the only difference between the 95-99 fenders and the 00-02 fenders is the bracket on the inside of the 95-99 where the corner lights go. i could be wrong but i think the fenders are more different than that. not only is it the bracket but it seems that there's only one hole for the bumper to attach to on the 95-99 fender.

both fenders are aftermarket and for a 2000 model.

i've tried to move the headlights back to try to get it to look a bit better but you really can't since the headlight bracket bolts to the fender and bumper in the same spot.

the car has been in the shop so i haven't had a chance to work on it lately. i'm going to try to find some 00-02 fenders in a junkyard somewhere. i'm thinking those will fit better overall since the bumper was made for those years.

once i find some i'll let you know how it turned out.

if someone with an 00+ could measure the line where the fender and bumpers meet and post it here that would be great. that would let me know if it's the fenders or the bumper or both.

took that measurement for you...

the fender is exactly 5 inches and the Type J kit I have is 4 3/4...see pic below for how I lined mine up....

Its your aftermaket fenders. Get a OEM set of fenders either from a yard or the dealership.

thanks for the help.

Hmmmmm lets see common sense would say that if it lined up on one car with stock fenders and not yours with after market fenders then your problem lies in your fenders. Thats just my honest opinion on whats wrong.

right and common sense tells me you're a jackass.

i don't do body work and never have. this is my first body kit install. so when things didn't line up, no matter what i did, i came here to ask for help. people like you is the reason some don't ask questions here. i bet you always reply with some smart ass "try searching" remark when a question is asked. here's an idea, if you're going to take the time to be a dick how about saving yourself a minute or two and just not say anything.

that's my honest opinion of you.

If you didn't lack common sense you would have saved yourself a lot of time and figured it out. But then again you don't have any. I didn't have any body work knowledge and I figured out my kit install on my own with trial and error and common sense. Also it is better to be a smart ass then a dumbass.

i'm a dumbass because i wasn't sure what was wrong with something the first time i ever tried it? lol that's some great logic you have there.

let's see. i send you a box full of rocket parts. can you put a rocket together and get it to work right? without asking a single question?

a guy needs a heart transplant. here's a knife. think you can do it and not kill him?

by your logic, with a little common sense you should be able to pull these off. right?

moron, if you had an ounce of sense or even a speck of intelligence you'd think harder on what comes out of that hole in your face. why don't you try to make a post that doesn't lower the intelligence of everyone who reads it. how about being constructive. i'm sure with all that common sense you have you might be able to come up with something useful. right? do yourself a favor and slam your head in a door a few times. idiot.

Ok lets see here
1. I never called you a dumbass that is a quote that I always use when someone calls me a smartass or gets called a smartass. But oh well guess you have never heard that saying.
2. Nice comparisons to heart surgery and and rockets those are all just a hair different then holding a bumper up to fenders lining it up and drilling some holes.

You yourself said you have aftermarket fenders and that it might be them. So think about it measure your stock ones measure your old bumper. Maybe before trying to do it you should have searched around for some info instead of jumping in blind. I know before I go out on the heilo to change out parts or trouble shoot parts I read the publications and see what I am looking for and what I need to do the job. I really don't care if you think I'm an @!#$ a moron or whatever. I am who I am and I say what I want when I want to. If you don't like it ignore it.
