Fiberglass experts!!

Is there a way to bend fiberglass after it has already hardened? I have a feeling not, but i don't know much about glassing. I have a glassed trunk that fits okay, but its not perfect. one corner up buy the window is perfect, but the corner on the other side sticks up a lil. i know its not a perfect fitment trunk, i knew when i bought it, but just wondering if there is a way to fix it. it is also just a lil small so the gap between trunk and body is maybe 1/8 inch larger than it should be all around. It does manage to seal though, and no water has leaked in.

This is a really bad pic i took before it saw a bath all winter but its the best pic i currently have that shows the defect. It shows the side where the corner is bent up slightly.

There is no way to bend it after it has hardened. You can sand down the area in quetion, and reglass it if needed.

thats what i thought. although someone told me that if you heat it up enough it will be weak enough to reform it slightly.

you may be able to cause it to sag. when it gets hot it can sometimes tend to sag. depending on thickness and strength tho. put something small and decent weight on the corner in hot sunlight and see if u can get it to form down. Also recommend maybe taking a block of wood cut to fit in the trunk jam under it so it doesn't sag to much. Thursday my buddy Chris' c/f trunk we had it open for bout a hour in sunlight installing rear strut bar and cleaning up the wiring and the back of the trunk from being up and in hot sun sagged downward some. was a pain to re latch. i was pushing down on it while Chris pulled it outward till the latch got it. I don't know if fiberglass is as bad but its worth a shot, i know my buddy left a f/g trunk floor he made, out in the sun on a picnic table and where it wasn't under table it sagged about 1/4" but that was after more then 8hrs of pretty much direct sunlight.

Ya what manta z no more said, in the hot sun put some weight on the corner then when it cools down at night, or take it to a shady area for 30 mins. Then take off the weights. This would be your best bet.

Let us know if it worked for you

thanks, i will try that. would you not recommend using some sort of heat gun/blow dryer? i don't mind if anything happens to the paint because it needs to be repainted anyways, which i will do once i get around to taking the wing off to do it. it was given to me, i think without a clear coat so it needs a good repaint anyways.

Yes you can use a heat gun and heat the area up, but you need to heat the whole area not just like the corner. But if you just park the car in the sun it will work for you.

But make sure that you park in shade or somewhere cool for about 30 mins so it will stay down.
