I just recently got the car painted and I wanted to know if I should wait a few months before I clay bar and wax it? Or just simply clay bar it anyway. I'm eager to see my maximum shine.
how recent was it painted?
id wait atleast 2 months. not everything is fully cured yet.
ya...if recent is within a week or 2, id definately wait. alot of paint instructions say not to even wash the car for at least a month
Exactly what they are saying. You want to wait even to wash it. Don't clay it or wax it or so for atleast 2 months as well. Claying the car will pull off contaminants, minor scratches and smooth it out. If it was just painted, you really shouldn't have a need to do it yet anyways. Also, you don't want to risk pulling up the paint or cracking it if you come to a spot that isn't cured yet. Its not worth the risk for costly damage. Just wait it out
Its been about 3 weeks. I guess I'll wait.
you can wash it, just dont wax it. you should be able to wash it after a week. some say you shouldnt but you can
When ig ot mine down last year i waited a week to wash it and after i washed it u used some imperial hand glaze on the car. gives it a great shine and it aint wax. the painter actually gave it to me and said to use it when i wanted a good shine. stuff only lasts about a day though.
Do not clay bar or wax the car for 90 days. Some say sooner, but 90 days was the time given at every body shop I've ever worked at to be safe. If you wax too soon, you'll clog the "pores" in the clear and cause it to fog up. Better to be safe than sorry
Fallen Angel is right. Stay away from anything that contains wax for at least 90 days.

Listen to this lady.
I'm not sure why, but your comment made me smile lol. Maybe it was the way it was worded, maybe it's because I'm happy because I'm used to responses "thanks MAN"... but for some reason I smiled lol. Thanks
not to off topic here, but ive always heard rumors about this and i want to know the truth.
fallen angel, your talking about "clogging the pores" with wax made me think about it....
is it really possible to wax your car's clear right off? or at least damage the clear from waxing too much? i mean seriously, last summer i bet i waxed my car 30 times, and spray waxed it at least 20 and my clear seems to be fine. i dont wash my car ever either, ive washed it 2 times since ive owned it. its not a daily driver and never sees rain so i dont see the point, i just keep it extremely clean.
just wondering thats all....
eternalone... where the F are the pics!!!!!! i wanna see this new pearl paint you BASTARD!

I've never heard of "waxing your clear off"...
I wouldn't really see as waxing alot would damage your clear per say... but if you think about it, let's say you do wax your car 30 times a year. That's at LEAST 15 times more than the average person. If you're not taking that wax off... all you're doing is waxing over old wax, and waxing over the old wax that might have microscopic dirt or other particles in it.
ESPECIALLY if your car isn't a daily driver, all you're really doing is wasting time. You don't really need to wax it any more than 4 times a year... and most people don't even do that.
mine was washed and waxed less then a week after paint, but it was also wetsanded and polished the day after the paint, my bodyshop said it was fine, it was there reccomendation actually as it was going into a show with their name displayed on the car, year later and there is no hazing or clouding whatsoever

tis the very very rare exception. Also depends on the prep, paint used, process.... etc. Any shop I've been at has been 90 days... better to be safe than sorry
why the hell would u clay it anyway? you should be color sanding first
lol i simply cant just take the car to a show and not wax it... the paint just stands out so much better after waxing it, maybe theres so much wax on it that its actually dulling in the sun or something? lol.... doesnt the clay bar strip off wax? so if i say wax it maybe 4 times, then clay bar... then wax again and so forth and so on. ive yet to try the claybar, i do want to really bad, just havnt gotten around to it yet.

I was answering Zyaaaa's question about over waxing the car.... that has nothing to do with color sanding... you do NOT "color sand" before clay baring a car...

Why in the hell would you wax before using a clay bar??? You want to take off the OLD wax with the clay bar... THEN wax it.
Honestly... I know you like waxing before a show... but waxing your car that much is honestly not doing anything good for your car... that's overkill.
i meant wax it 4 times like say in a month.. then strip it off with the clay bar, then wax it.. THEN wax it every few weeks or w/e i think the paint needs.
didnt mean wax it 4 times then immediatly clay bar it, then wax it. i just want to use the clay bar to strip the wax off.
and i realize that its not 'helping' the paint any, but trust me... every car ive ever waxed looks better after you re wax it even 2 or 3 days later. idk what it is, maybe the sun takes the initial shine away, but it just doesnt lustar as well IMO after a few days.
Bah, I only clay bar my new paint after a year.... there should be crap on the paint yet!!
My new paint cures for three months before wax goes on it....
But it gets washed once a week or two at the most... with a nice Meguires Gold Class wash... no wax crap in it.
Wax before shows, which is maybe 3 times a year.

Maybe you're not understanding... waxing the car that often is totally not necessary

i dont think YOU understand... its my car, im telling you... im not doing it to "protect" the paint-the car sits in a dark garage all day long, doesnt see rain, snow, or car washes, im doing it because it looks better after each time i wax it.
nobody has given me a straight answer as to weather or not the wax is fading because im going over and over it again with new or not.
i dont care if its 'necessary' the car looks good and thats all that matters to me.
didn't you get the part where I said TOO much wax isn't a good thing? How it builds up layer after layer??? I never said you're waxing it that much to protect it... I said it's stupid because it doesn't see bad weather... and it's not necessary.
I think no one is giving you the answer you want because no one (at least no one I know) waxes their car NEARLY that much... most people don't wax their car in a lifetime as much as you do in a year.
I've never heard of anyone waxing their car that much... but ok... it's VERY possible your paint looks "dull" BECAUSE you wax it so much. There's probably a wax build up on your car that's unbelievable...
WAX IS NOT MADE TO BE PUT ON A CAR THAT OFTEN OR THICK PERIOD!!!! I might do mine 2 or 4 times a year... and when I DO wax I claybar beforehand... AND when I *gasp* wash it guess what? it's shiny again!!!
Sorry... I'm getting agitated. If someone says it's not good or gives you reasons it's not necessary, that shoudl be good enough for your answer... I already answered your question, and you argued my response... yet again. If you don't like the answers people give you, or are afraid someone will tell you something you don't want to hear, don't ask the question.
Yes I'm having a bad day
