I want to repaint my hood. It is fiberglass and is currently silver and I need to paint it black. I myself will not be doing the actual base/clear but I would like to do all the prep work myself. What are the steps I should take to prepare the hood for the painters. Also there is a small crack about an inch in length (not all the way through) at the edge of the hood...how should I go about fixing that (just some bondo?). Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks.
nothing. some shops wont even touch the car if you prep it yourself. i would just leave it be and take it to the painters and let them do the whole thing
i agree. alot of painters will refuse working on something that they didnt prep. or they will just re-prep it the way they like it.
^^^^ what they said. Ask whoever will be painting it if they mind. Odds are they won't guarantee the work since you prepped it yourself... you'd be better off just letting the shop do it because honestly... you're not really going to save any money getting a hood painted by prepping it yourself
Thanks guys. It wasn't really about saving money...more about wanting to do it myself...but I see your point about guaranteeing the work. I'll let the pros take care of it all. Thanks.
take it off send it to me i will fix it for a small fee, ya i would agree take it to a shop and let a pro do it
can i haz bondo
