Hey everyone! I'm new (as some of you might know from my "newbies" post). I have been reading and reading and reading (did I mention reading?) a LOT of the posts here. Getting familiar with people's tastes and their specialties, acquiring a lot of ideas...you all are great!
I just wanted to inquire as to why so many people seem to dislike the DRL's? Enough so that there is a sticky on how to disable them! What am I missing?
Thanks!
~Ri

oh and its something to do to your car

lol Ohhh, I see...
This is the first car I've ever had that had DRL's, so I didn't know if people disliked them due to power drains or something.
I think i'll have to disable mine when I get new light fixtures anyway.

I did because while driving i didnt like the look they gave the car.. kinda made it hard to recognize the car.. plus when i did my 00 front swap i wanted to make sure they didnt cause problems..
they shorten bulb life, they look dumb. they waste gas (a very miniscule amount, but it still does), they have basically been proven innefective, oh and did i mention they look dumb....... check out www.lightsout.org for more info

Yeah, I read that in the stickies. I'm looking into black background projectors, so I guess once I get them I'll be clipping the blue wire...*hands shaking*

I like being able to run my parking lights and fogs without the DRL's. the car looks much better that way.
oh, and I get cut off just as much as when I had them.

I kept blowing fuses when i did my front end conversion... So instead of the wiring nightmare, sniped 1 wire and ended all the problems.
After reading that article I'll be disabling my DRL's tomorrow..heh. I sorta like my DRL's, but entering a military base pretty often and being bitched at because my DRL's are on when pulling into the gate gets annoying, so I have to pull up my ebrake to the first notch to turn them off at <5mph. So it'd be easier for me if they were just not there at all.

thats why i cut mine....the MP's were getting mad at me coming through the gate, and i knew one day i'd get a ticket for my exhaust, so i fugured to turn them off would decrease my chance of pissing them off

I got lucky with my 97 Cavy -- the DRL stopped working on their own, and I was told getting them to work again would require "a replacement module that costs about $400". I'm probably technically obligated by law in Canada to fix it, but screw that -- I've gotten used to turning on the lights myself.

you don't need the lights on in the day anyways lol....
I got lucky and no longer have them once i swapped wiring harnesses from a fire to a cav
I jsut don't like that look of having lights on during the day. It looks dumb pulling onto a gas station ro something, pulling up the e-brake and the lights going out. Then coming on when I release the brake. It's a little minor petty thing but still I didn't like it, so off with their heads, so to speak.
I personally don’t like them. If you don’t want to be seen at night and want to keep your car on it sucks because you’ll get noticed. It’s best just to take them off.
I dislike when cars DONT have them. When I'm pulling out to pass for instance, its hard to see a car in the distance that doesnt have lights on sometimes. So you pull out and start and at that point you're like, @!#$ theres a car coming.
I personally don't understand the people that say 'I don't like the way it looks', but guess thats why I don't do the same thing as everyone else lol

thats why i did it on my cav. looks awesome with just the amber corners and fog lights on. its more aggressive looking.
fortunatly GM got smart when they made the cobalt, and i can manually turn them on or off from inside the car now without having to tap a wire and permanantly disable anything.

There's another reason why I did it...
Prior to owning my Sunfire, all the cars that I have owned were no newer than 1990. As such, no DRL's on any of them.
I like being able to turn on the headlights when I want to, and off when I want, so, when I took apart the instrument cluster to cover the shift light, I went ahead and disabled the DRL's (since I was already in there). Plus that green light was f'ing annoying.
On a side note, I had a 2k1 Grand Am for a week as a rental car... I disabled the DRL's on that one too. Returned it w/ 'em disabled. It had auto-on headlights, wtf did it need DRL's for as well?
