Nighthawk, Hella, Silverstar, or Silverstar Ultra?
Monday, October 30, 2006 10:16 AM
Looking for the best headlight for the buck. I had Silverstars but lost them both in my wreck a month ago. I liked them but I've also seen the Hellas at Pep Boys (more expensive but seem to resemble Silverstars), and then just recently the Silverstar Ultras (or Plus, can't remember - they were gold tipped) at AutoZone. Finally I saw the Nighthawks at WallyWorld and read online that they were a good bulb for the price, but I'm looking for a more blue light than what I've seen on here (incl. the comparison photo thread.)

Any suggestions? Are the Ultras all they're cracked up to be (esp. since a pair is a whopping 50 bucks)? Has anyone tried the Hellas and if so how do they compare to the normal Silverstars?

I hated the silverstars I went and got some of the Philliphs crystal vision that just came out and they are fantastic. Almost as bright as HIDs.

true, but I don't have HIDs so I have to say PIAA Xtreme White Plus 4000K (ultra white, 100% DOT legal limit), I have them and they are super bright, I was following my dad and he told me to shut off my brights, so I flashed my brights and he was like, WTF???? lol or 4700K Xtreme Force (whitest and brightest with hint of blue Halo, but I believe only legal in Japan).

I've been through just about every time of wannabe bulb but nothing comes close to the 10,000k hids, at all or is even remotely close, sure some look blue but they dont look as strong as HIDs IMO

I have the GE Nighthawks. They dont LOOK much different than any other car on the road... I mean they're pretty much pure white, but lights like the silverstars and such definitely have that 'I have modified lights look at me' thing going on. That aside, they do work a LOT better than stock, so if you're focusing on visibility, they're great.

Nighthawks on the left, silverstars on the right.
