so after reading the DRL sticky and always wanting to have HIDs I overnighted myself a quality McCulloch 8K HID KIT from xenonking.com(which btw is awesome) This was a spur of the moment deal and it could not have turned out better.
The Box
The contents of the package
First I disconnected the negative battery(duh!)
Then remove the 2 bolts above the headlight housing so you cna remove the headlight
Then Remove the headlight housing so you can remove the factory (in my case) H11 blubs.
Remove the factory bulb and in its place put the HID blub in.(Please note if you buy a quality kit it should come with new gaskets to seal out water with the HID bulb, ALSO never ever touch the blub part with your finger or get it dirty with anything else. if you do when you turn the bulbs on and they heat up and the stuff on the blubs will also heat up usually causing the blub to explode inside the headlight housing.(AKA NOT GOOD))
Mount both the ballast and the smaller black transfer case on each side some where where it can get some air or atleast stay semi cool. the #1 killer of ballasts is when they overheat.
Passanger side mounting....
Drivers side(harder to mount)
Next you need to plug everything together bulb to ballast, ballast to factory wiring harness ect ect.
Now connect negative battery cable and see what you have...
Another finished wiring setup on the passengers side.
And here is the finished project...
2 more notes...the first time you turn your HID set-up on leave it on for a good 10-15 minutes for the "burn-in" period. I chose to do this when i tested my set-up before reinstalling my headlights and cleaning up the wiring.
Also you will need to change your headlight fuse to a 20 fuse and i learned this after my install was done.
Thats about all she wrote

nice. great work. looks good
RIP Saint ........ JBO

Maybe im in the wrong (never messed with hid's) but i thought you are not supposed to use hids without a projector lens.
i spent 340 with shipping i wanted the quality kit not the crappy ebay ones
Big Boi-all the projector does is allowes it to control the light more so there is a cut-off on the light as you can see by the light on my garage wall it still works perfectly fine without one and still looks awesome
seems like it'd be a lot of glare to me

back the car up 25 feet and take a picture of the wall, you will see the glare, there is even glare in the picture you have shown.
the reason you are suppose to use a h.i.d. kit with projectors, is so that it controls the beam pattern, stopping it from blinding oncoming traffic, which sadly you are doing. plus your output is improved with a projector kit.
get projectors...
I have to agree with the projector beam issue. I had a set of HIDs from a Mercedes in my cavi w/ projectors and the light distribution was relatively good with minimal glare issues.
why do u have to change the fuse?
i was told that it gets more power i dunno but without the fuse sometimes it would not come on when turning the lgihts on the first time.
i did mine this way and mine don't work but if i hook them strate to the battery they work i wonder why
are the connectors from the ballast to the factory harness reversed?
what brand kit is this?
I just got my HIDs in, ill post pics soon. I love them!!!
nice! please post them i would be intersted to see them.

What car are you putting them into. In the cavys you need to reverse the positive and negative in order to get them to work most of the time

Custom Made 04 CF HID Projectors
05darkfire... while I appreciate this post, in my experience the vast majority of J's develop problems with HID's. You may be lucky, if you have not had any problems yet. I also have a newer sunfire and instaled a kit (different name brand but identical quality kit) and had no problems for a few months then all hell broke loose... passenger side light starting cutting in and out, then lights turned on while I was driving with the switch off... then I had a dead battery because they turned themselves on at some point. The ballasts were installed so that there was no way they could ground out, my solution is going to be adding a relay...I didi a search on here and there are many similar stories.

the black transfer case is called the igniter.....just for for knowledge

interesting and unfortunate, as i never saw any problems past the fuse which i took care of the first day. i hope i continue to not have problems, my car is not going be drivin much anyways as i am off to college tomorrow and ahve a lot less of need for it.
When I installed my hids on my cav i never had to change out the fuse and never really had any probelms..
same thing with my tc i never had to change out the fuse at all.

ill try to find the photos of my hid kit on my cav

From what I've heard, installing a relay between the kit and the headlight wire from the instrument column stops most problems. Another problem I have is sometimes if a flick on the lights, they power up then shut off...I have to turn lights on quickly, then off, then on again and then they stay lit...again, this problem was fixed with a relay according to people I know with Hid's. Other then that I love them, in the '03+ sunfire light units, the light pattern is almost the same as stock and not blinding at all, despite not using projectors when we all know focus HID light beams the best. When I first installed them, I adjusted the light units down just in case... I took it for a drive and had no light, the beams were too low...put them back up to stock and it was perfect, and not blinding anyone (never been highbeamed once, and I had others visually check by driving towards me in oncoming lane)

For those of you whineing about glare, you've never stood infront of an '04 fire with it's headlights on at night have you?

thank you i am sick of people bitching but its cool its not there car and i love every single thing about my lights
ive got the same kit in my 97 cav and im not too happy with it. plug and play kits are garbage. mine right now wont stay lit, i have a 1200 cold cranking amp battery that could power a damn transport and it wont keep them lit. at first i got 2 different colored bulbs so they were happy to replace that for me and now im not sure what the deal is, the one comes on if i give the car a little throttle and the other one jsut flickers. kinda annoys me. im gonna go try the 20 amp fuse thing right now and see if it makes a difference.
whats the deal with reversing the two wires on the cavys? i know when i tested both wires they both showed voltage withthe lights off and only when you turn them on one showed a ground, so how exactly would you wire in a relay for something like this?
id love to know before saturday morning, lol, im going out of town withthe car and id like to be able to use the hids and not have to run my high beams on the hiway like some jackass, lol
parting out my built and boosted 97 z24 so4x4.com/cavy.html for pics and a parts list
