ok here is my question i'm wanting to mold my sides and my rear but i was told if i mold them and along with my 1.6 lowering coming within the month that if i hit a bump or any thing that vibrates the body that it will crack everything i molded. i was woundering if there was any type of mat that i could use that would be strong enought to lower and mold and not have to worry about cracking. any advice would work great.
My sides are starting to crack a little after 14 months of having the kit on. But with the winter and summer changes, it's kinda expected. I bolted my sides on and then i made 6 brackets and glassed them under the sides to the car. (Glassed to the sides then bolted to the car.) Then I used a pretty thing mat to glass it to the car, then filler etc. My rear isn't showing any signs of cracking, but it's also my second one since 14 months ago. So I duuno what your car will do.
it really depends on the quality of the molding process. if you do a half assed job of molding the body kit to the car, and use cheap materials, you'll have problems. if you use quality products and it's done well, you'll have far less problems.
what you really have to be cautious about when lowering is hitting curbs, bumps, bottoming out, etc.
well what's the best stuff to use i did all my fg for my subs in my old car but i have no idea how to do body work. would i just use the same stuff or diffrent?
hmmm i have had my kit molded since agust and the only prob i have so far is the skirts coming away from the door jamb but that unavoidable with opening and closing doors all the time and people kicked the skirts as they exit the car! rear hasnt gotten one crak in it yet!
Who needs a sig?

what did you all use to mold it with i mean what mat and fg liquid or pudy?
U should be using body panel adhesives, not just slapping fiberglass over the bodykit and metal body. I screwed my stuff to the car as the adhsive was setting up. I left quite a bit of the screws in since more surface was getting built up over those areas. If youre gonna just do fiberglass atleast drill holes so the resin seeps through. AND MAKE SURE TO GRIND, there are so many hacks out there who just start doing bodywork without even sanding down to the basecoat let alone grinding the metal so the adhesives or resin sticks better.
Z2FLIP4 do you have any pics that i could use for a reference while i'm doing this?
i was planing on grinding all the paint and coating off cause i'm getting it repainted l8r on. i was going to just use ribbets to mount it on instead of screws. but i dont know how it would work. i'm changing to skirts that i have on now for a set of drift i belive. not sure cause skinny j hasnt brought them over yet so i dont know what type they are. but is there a way to make a mount for the side skirts for underneth them so that they dont move if some one kicks them?
Yup. I have had my kit molded for I think 2 and a half years now. No problems at all. I only have my sides done but still the same. Do a good job and nothing will crack. I have actually let it drop down real hard by accident on my side skirts with the air ride and nothing. Not one crack on the mold. I did get a little crack on the bottom of the skirt though but I fixed that before the new paint.
