Hello everyone,
I searched but couldnt really come up with anything. So heres my question.
Can I paint my IDI cover with normal Automotive Paint, base/clear? Will it burn off eventually? I dont know how hot the cover gets, I've never really touched it after the car was on... haha.
The reason I ask is because I want it the color of my car, but no where sells High Temp paint in my color...
Thanks everyone for your answers/opinions.

Yup.
I painted the 2.4 idi's cover with silver interior spray paint. looks great to this day, and that was 2 years ago.

you dont need engine paint. I would suggest powder coating for the best durability, but if you prep it right and use an automotive bc/cc system it will be fine. I did mine over a year ago and still looks new.

Ok, so I got some mixed information here, but I think I'm going to try painting it with normal base/clear.
OneBadZ, that looks friggin nuts!!! I love what you did there!!

Regular car paint works just fine. Paint doesn't start to burn off till you get hot enough to where your engine would be on fire. I have regular car paint on my ECO's coil pack and its been there for going on 3 years with no flacking or chipping cracking peeling fadeing or yellowing. You'll do fine with regular car paint.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

anyone know what colr to look for to match a candy red intake. Chris, I see your's looks like a good match. Do you remember what color you used?
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N
I have painted two IDI covers using base/clear 8774 code Dupont red paint to match my body color with no adverse results. I polished the highlights prior to painting to avoid overworking the painted surfaces after spraying.
Although it should be easy to polish off the highlights after painting, it isn't, especially with base/clear. I had to use the tedious blue masking tape and X-Acto knife method before shooting to get good results. I then repolished the highlights carefully using aluminum polish and a shop rag.
