Alt bracket

Ok im not sure what forum this should go in, Cause its not a performance question nor and electrical issue, nor a newb or maintance issue.

So please move to where ever you see fit.

I need to know if i can safely remove the alt bracket without removing the Alt itself on my 2200 engine. I know there are 5 bolts and 1 does connect to the alt, but there are 2 other bolts that hold the alt in place as well.

I wouldnt drive without the bracket in place, i just need to remove it for measurements, for a new custom piece to match the other work done to my engine recently.

why not just pull the belt off and pull the alt off , if your not gonna drive it ?

you could, but i wouldn't really suggest it without removing the belt. i would slip the belt off, remove the bracket leaving the alternator in place, do whatever you need to do, replace the bracket and put the belt back on.

As soon as you pull the bracket off the belt will fall off anyway as there is nothing making the alternator hold tension on the belt.

I'm going to have to go with cannon on this one.

You might have to reroute the belt over a couple pulleys on installation anyway, why not just remove the belt before hand...

Also, it may be a bit more difficult/dangerous removing the alt while the belt is still under tension.

Just a thought...
