Since I know that GM messed up 03 and up Cavaliers and Sunfires with the
bad drivers side tailight socket...Do you think if I got one from a older Cavalier or
Sunfire, that it would help fix my problem instead of me paying GM over $150 for a
new tailight socket since my warranty is up? I'm tired of the tailight going out and
plus it has a fast turn signal...but nothing is wrong with the bulb...just the socket...
Thanks in advance!
i thought the socket issue was a recall, which should be covered warranty or not.
They wont do it due to my warranty and they said my car has been messed with
(wiring under the dash) so they don't want to repair it.

lol and you believed that
i took my car in for recalls to get fixed w/ all the crap i have done to my car. if they wont do it, take it to another chevy dealer and they will do it
I waited 8 hrs for nothing that and it was my day off...Same thing happened at another
Chevy dealer...it's a bunch of crap...
if its a recall they have to fix it
Thats what I told them both dealers at the time. They both told me to buy a new
socket and they will also charge to install it. I just rushed out the door and drove
off like a crazy fool.
My question from the beginning was if the old cavalier socket fits my car ..is what I
was really wanting to know lol
it should fit, I don't think that they changed anything, I know that the pre 2000's had a different tailight setup than the 95-99. Had a 1 bulb system and then swithced to a 2 bulb system. If anything, the wires might be a diferent color, but it should fit and work properly.

Thats all I need to know, thanks!
all the more reason to upgrade the tails
man, id report them to GMC. isnt that illegal to refuse a recall?? if its a safety issue, it has to be, wether the car is modded or not. if this piece sets your car on fire, then what. they should be liable if they wouldnt replace it. id raise some hell
1) go to local auto parts store
2) get a 3357 or 3157 socket (I can't remember which bulb it is for the tail light)
3) cut and splice.
Should take 10 min, tops... 20 if you stop for a beer break after each wire.
Also, I second the reportage to GM.
Forgot to add they fixed mine. WTF were they doing under your dash?????????

by law they are required to repair any safety defect. im pretty sure this would apply to modified cars too, unless you altered/replaced the tail light.

^^the ONLY way i could see them legally able to deny it is if the harness itself was gone and replace with something else. but if the harness is still there, untouched, but maybe with aftermarket tails or something, i think they are legally obligated to fix it.
again, id contact GM and tell em what @!#$ty dealer they are.
I have a friend that works a chevy dealership, I will find out something today.

GM changed the part to an updated version so its not just the same one you currently have. And it must be replaced by the dealership if its a recall. They BSed you !
But if you want to buy it new from GM its only like 10 dollers.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
i had mine changed by one dealership, and then about 6 months later it crapped out again, took the socket out, went to the closest gm dealer, handed it to them and said that this is your recall that ef'd up, gimme a new one

Big WERD!!!!!
Major x2
They've always fixed my recalls...
I'd def. raise some hell. I know it's not that complicated of a process to fix it yourself, but it's the principle of the matter.

I've had 2 dealers pester me trying to fix the recall when I've taken my car in for warranty work. I'd say I'm on the highly modified list and they still want to do it. I've declined because soon I will be switching over to the Toyota taillights.

I just told the woman on the phone that the only wires I had spliced was my DRL's
and 02 sensor wire and therefore that was the reason they won't perform any work
on my recall and she also told me GM pays only once to perform every recalll.
What is the part number or the part description...because she wanted to know what
you were talking about?
