Need Idea on Tail Light Conversion
Friday, February 17, 2006 3:44 PM
I have a 1998 Cavalier 4 door and I am looking to mold in some new tails into the car. I have seen a few done on here and am looking for maybe something new. Anyone have any ideas?

The newer Civic tails dont look that bad.

Go on eBay and look up tailight, there are about 754327530 pics of lights so you can get ideas from there.

Yea I tried that a few days ago and well I got tons of civic lights and just a few others. I was hoping to get ideas from what others had already thought about and or tried....

How about late model firebird or T/A tails. Stcik with the general motors products. Or try frenching in some older caddy lights into the trunk or bumper. Just a cuple of thoughts.

I saw the Cobalt coupe post on here. Guy did nice work. something about doing something that hasn't been done before, at least not to a j-body, intrigues me. I like the honeycombed look of the late model T/A taillights, and if I had the skills and knowhow, I would prbably attempt it. As far as the Caddy lights frenched in, I'm thinking 3rd Gen Cimmaron?

IMO i think that would look stupid, you're talking about the long skinny caddy tail lights right?

i would go with something like the cobalt, thatd a really neat lookin rear end

I think the newer BMW tails would look good.

The thing with tail conversions is you hvae to get lights that are similar in surface and angle otherwise its not going to work. The Solstice would never work without cutting the rear clip off and welding it onto a Cavalier

Like my Scion tails are nowhere near the same as Cavalier tails but since I did a widebody I can use that to my advantage, making the inset edge. I also had to reweld the trunklid alot and the 1/4 panels.

rsx tails? maybe?

here an idea, that i brought up before! leave the cavy outers, and slap some cobalt inner reverse lights in there instead of the cavy inners! kinda like is300 style!

I thought for a long time i wanted to ferrari 360 tail light conversion. But the $600+ for just the lights was a major turn off. The ferrari lights I speced and they would acctually fit nicly (by that i mean some mounting and installation difficulty will still remain but as in comparison with other styles of taillights).

I have since changed my mind and I am using 2006 Z06 tail lights. I am going with the corvette theme on my car

Dayum ok now i have 8 ideas to choose from.

I already own a Solstice, so those wont even be an option. >LoL< that would justbe goofy to have the same as another car i own.

I am going to be shaving the center light on the trunk completely so I will need the reverse light included in the light.

Thanks again for the ideas!
