03+ Taillight Bezel - Exterior Forum

03+ Taillight Bezel

ive seen people w/ 03+ cavaliers with there taillight bezel painted to match there cars and i was woundering how exactly you do it along with what type of paint you use on it?

when I did it, I taped off the parts i didn't want to be painted, sanded the rest of the lights with sandpaper, and sprayed it with automotive paint from napa from a HPLV gravity feed spray gun, then clear coated it. it looks exactly like the factory paint, and looks amazing.....wish i had pics to show you. but basically its like painting any other exterior part.

I didn't use a primer and its held up just fine to high pressure washing and high speeds (100+)

im working on the same thing, im finding masking off the "circles" for the reverse lights is a PITA.

not to thered jack but how many coats of clear did you do?

didnt woot do this to his car? i think its on his car domain page...one of the first non Z Cavys in the lookup tool

Yeah, my taillights are painted the color of the car. I haven't replied to this thread though because I had a shop do it, and am not sure how exactly they did it. I'm almost certain they used the same paint as the rest of the exterior, but whether or not they put a layer of primer down or not, i dont know.

It cost somewhere in the ballpark of $100-$150 to have a shop do it. It was probably so expensive because of the prep time.

It looks really cool when it's all done though.
