Shave 4 door questions
Monday, February 13, 2006 10:24 PM
So im thinking of shaving my 4 door (locks and handles), but the problem is um, well how do the doors open. I know i need to get poppers for all 4, but what happens if i want say the rear doors open. Can I get a remote that has a signal for each individual door?? Also can someone complie me a checklist of what I need? I believe i need poppers and actuators?? LIttle confused on this subject thanks

Not everybody uses poppers, its up to you. You'd have to find a 4 channel brain box if you want to be able to do the doors individually. Basically you need 4 solenoids, and the brain box, you're better off finding a kit that has it all included.

no i wasnt asking how to do it. i was asking if that was all i would need materials-wise. i am taking welding in school now and i think it would be a cool project. i already talked to the teacher and he said i could do it for one of my class welding projects. i just wanted to know if that popper kit would be all i needed to make my doors functional again.

Ya get 4 popper and either a brain for it OR I would recomend a Python 5 channel+ or a Viper 5 Channel+ and put it on your alarm.

I have an Autoloc kl550. Works awesome. I chose not to go with the poppers due to my doors being able to open from 1000+ feet away. I just have the solenoids in the first two and the trunk.

Oh yeah, if you wanna do it yourself you will need all this:

Keyless entry system
Solenoids
filler plates
kitty hair
filler
hardener
primer

I think thats it.....

Also, I like using just a keyless entry and not an alarm because if you ever jump outta your car with it running and the door closes....good luck trying to get it open....

I would also recommend getting a manual release setup to open your door in case your battery in your car ever goes dead.

Ok guys maybe I am missing something here. Why do you need keyless entry? If you have shaved doors and poppers, then why would you need to lock your doors? Or are you just using the keyless entry for the remote part and not for the locking part??

APlusPerformance: How much can you get me a Spal kit for? I will need a full setup for a 98 Sunfire 2 door w/o keyless entry. Email fire_starter2pt2@hotmail.com

All a popper does is pop your door open. You dont even need them. What you DO need is 2 solenoids to unlock the latch.

Im sorry, but if you guys dont know what parts are what, you are going to have a hell of a time installing all this.

BTW, you need a keyless entry system for the remote. The remote will send a signal to the brain, therefore making the door unlatch.
