Cutting out grille section 00-02 Cavalier bumper
Monday, January 02, 2006 3:46 PM
has anyone cut out the grille section in the 00-02 Cavalier front bumper? If so how was it done? I was thinkin about doing this and putting mesh in there completely and giving it a smoother look. Please respond back and let my know what all was done for this. Thanks a bunch

Very easy to do! A dremel would give a nice clean cut.

If indeed you do that, please keep it like the black one and leave the surrounding piece, dont cut it all off

thats just tacky, thats like getting yellow wiper arms and everything. imo that stuff looks tacky. small accessories like that should be the same color as the majority color

I think since you have alot of black on your car I would cut it out and go with a black mesh if your gonna do a color.

I did it on my 04 with a razor knife. A spinning dremmel has a tendency to dig little grooves or make bumps on the surface. I'm not 100% sure if your bumper is made of that flexible rubbery stuff right there or not but if it is a razor knife / box cutter will do a very clean job. One pass to scribe where you want the cut at and the second cut thru the material. Its quick and easy took me all of 10 minutes to open up my grill areas.

The black cavalier looked hella sweet. I was contemplating a body kit but after seeing that I may just go with a fog-light equipped stock bumper with mesh.

A long time ago on my old cav, I cut out part of the bumper so that I could mount fog lights.

We just used a sharp knife.

Remember...this was a long time ago. Some time in 2002, I believe. LOL

LeatherZ how did you get the mesh to stay in the bumper?

From the ebay auction: "- Installs via hi-tinsel strength cable-ties (some models also include stainless steel screws or clips) "

Do you know if the cavalier model includes screws/clips or do you have to fabricate something. I don't think I would trust "hi-tinsel" strength cable-ties.
