Take it off...
Tuesday, December 06, 2005 9:43 AM
I searched and didn't find anything to help me out. I 'm gonna take the huge ass wing off my car this winter (I know. It's about damn time). The problem I'm running into is I don't weld, own a welder, or have enough money to pay someone to weld the mounting holes or buy a new deck lid. What have ya'll used instead of welding or just getting a new deck lid to fill in the mounting holes.

sell the wing and use the proceeds to have it welded.

i really wouldnt suggest doing anything else than welding it. some will say just glass and fill it, but it WILL crack. either weld it or buy a lid that was never drilled

RIP Kasey Burleson, and get well soon Chris Shelly

Go to a junk yard and get new deck lid until you can save money to have it welded.

Ya never know you might find a nice black lid.

You could use a coldweld system, JBWELD might work.
Make sure you put something on the inside for the compound to adhere to, then grind it smooth...
might not last forever, but will last at least a few years, and is even paintable.

you can temp. plug it but it will have to be welded to be done right. people say you can glass over it but w/ the change in temps it will eventually crack and fall out

Heck no. The wing came with the car when I bought it. I'm ready to get rid of that damn thing. I might give Ol' JB a try.

Cork the holes.

you can use little rubber plugs (try a CB shop) if you want a cheap fix for the winter.

your car is black.. so put a square piece of black electrical tape over the holes until you have enough money to get the holes welded.

The only problem with that is the tape WILL come off. Here in STL we haven't been above freezing for a couple weeks now. Electrical tape doesn't seem to hold up in the cold. And on top of that, it is supposed to snow something ferious on Thursday.

wouldnt a 2k Z24 wing cover the holes up? that might leak or not be good enough though.

when i was looking for parts for a buddy's car i called some junkyards. average price for hoods and fenders was between 25 and 30 bucks. i can't imagine a trunk lid being too much more.

if you can take it off of one, you can put in on the other...its not hard.

if anything, you can alawys get it re-keyed to match the key you have.

To take the lock out of the trunk all you have to do is disconnect any wires running to it and pull the slide clip out and bang the cylinder will come out throught the outside of the trunk. Then just slide the one for your key in. Most yards sell the used trunk lids with the latches already attached to them. They have no use for those. Just make sure that your latches are the same. You may have a remote trunk latch but the new one may not. Before you close your trunk, take a screw driver and close the latch like if it were to hit the stricker and test it out to make sure it works just incase it does not if you are using the old latch. Or even your latch cause you may hook it up wrong or forget to hook it up all together. Just some advise if you get a used trunk lid.

i have a rear deck lid that i want to part with it's blue but it will get the job done. if you weld you still have to paint ,so 50 bucks for my deck lid and all you have to do is paint.

If you lived in the Northeast I would suggest mounting it on the front bumper. Plow some driveways and use the money to get the holes professionally welded.
