Couple questions
Thursday, November 10, 2005 6:57 PM

I saw this picture in the image manipulation forum and got completely hooked on the look. I have the same silver car stock right now but I was wondering about a few things on this one. Now I know this was photoshopped and whatnot so the questions might have no answers but here they are.

The lights on the front in the center, how would those be changed from the way they are stock, to how they look on this car, and same question for the lights on the bottom corner (not the fog lights) how would those be changed from orange to the color they are now? And are they legally allowed to be changed from the orange, to this color?

Where would I find a carbon fiber hood that's stock looking like that one?

What parts would be needed to be lowered, and what's an approximate price all said and done (Canadian)?

I think that's about it for now, sorry if these are stupid questions that are always asked and answered but I'm really excited about one day getting my sunfire looking as good as a lot of the cars I'm seeing in here.

My bad, forgot one. How would I get rid of the Pontiac badge on the front and have it look smooth like that? And I don't need the link to the post about removing badging... I've read that one, I just mean will it need filler once the badge is gone or anything of the sort?

Thanks again

They arent stupid questions if youve never done up a car before.

For lowering....springs are the cheapest (but not the best way to go) at around 3 to $400 in parts. Coilovers (best way to go) are around $1200 average. To get the car as low as the one in the picture you would need coilovers.

Wheels....about $1000......CF Hood....about 5 - $700....body work all depends on what you want done. Body kits (painted)....about $1000....mabey more.

Price when all said and done.....for everything you asked about......probably + or - $5000 CND. That would include labour because it doesnt sound like you have worked on a car before. Search for companies like RSM racing(canadian), Gravana or RK Sport.....you'll have no trouble finding parts.

And also....the turn signals on the front and on the side (that purple colour) might look cool, but they are illegal. Turn signals need to be amber (on the front) or red / amber on the back.

If you made yours purple you would get pulled over all the time.

Thats why its in the image manipulation section...we can dream cant we?

Hope this helps.

That's an OEM carbon fiber hood. Haven't found any pics but I know VIS has 'em.

To change the colour of the lights, you would first have to clear out the amber from inside or you may be able to find a company that sells clear ones and spray it with a spray on tint. Some people have done that to their headlights but I've never seen purple before.

Lowering your car? If your going for springs I reccomend Eibach Sportlines w/ Koni Yellow shocks/struts. If you want Coilovers, get Ground Control w/ Koni Yellows or you could shell out a buttload of cash for the new Tien coilover set-up that come with Tien struts/shocks. I've heard that they're worth every penny though. Another option is to bag that mofo using Easystreet airbags. Here's a link to all your suspension options:

I believe I've found the front bumper for that Kit.

It's made by Razzi. Can't quite figure out where the side skirts are from

Thank you both very much for the answers, much appreciated.
If you can't legally do those lights purple, would you be able to do them clear, with an amber bulb legally? I think that would probably still look better than having the orange that's on there now
As for the hood, are there any sunfire specific carbon fiber ones? The one that I saw from the parts website was smooth like a cavaliers. I'll keep looking around as well, just thought I'd ask.

Thanks again.

As long as the signals light up amber you can do whatever you want. Clear with an amber bulb is fine...The only thing about clear corners is that over time they tend to fade to a nasty yellow colour. I painted mine white (same colour as my car). Check out my cardomain site at the bottom if you want to see some pics of what it looks like.

As for the hood....most companies (like VIS) make different styles of carbon fiber hoods that are available for many models of cars. Styles such as the "Evo, Invader, or ram air" just to name a few examples. Just do a google search of sunfire hoods and you will have no trouble finding some.

Thanks again for the answers, is there any word on the front badge though? Not so much the part with the fishing wire etc to take them off, but would you have to have like bondo, or do some welding in order to make it smooth where the badge was?

The front bumper is plastic.....so welding might not work very well

You would have to remove the emblem, fill in the space with bondo, and re-paint the whole front bumper.

That is the only way it would look right. Some people have done it but you have to ask yourself the question......is it worth 2 or 300$ just to shave an emblem?

Some places like RK sport make carbon fiber badges that look pretty cool.

Thanks a lot. Yeah I should have realized about it not being metal, slip of the mind. I've saw those decals, some of them wouldn't be too bad, thanks for the reminder.

oh dear god , ok pay him no attention you do not please do not put bondo on a plastic bumper if ya did what he told you to do it will come back to haunt you in about 2 months time
so here is the correct way of fixing plastic
i believe the bumpers are a offlien type plastic, so it will need a adheshion promoter to make any repair material to stick to it
take a angle grinder and very lightly grind the arear down and bevel off the area where the pontiac symbol was
now i would take the same type of plastic from another bumper cut i t to shape and plastic weld in the the new piece of plastic using the correct rod`s for the plastic
after that D.A. the area with 80 then apply the adheshion promoter let it dry for 15 min`s then use the plastic repair material
i have done it i have fixed bumpers that were supposed to be garbage tear`s rip`s tabs missing doin it that way it will last you the life of the vehicle
that`s how it`s done i am sorry but apperntly you have allot to learn about repairing plastic or just body work in general
i hope MY advice from a real body man gives you the idea on what you need to do

can i haz bondo

pot meet kettle

also hes just telling you that your giving him wrong info. if your not sure on the answer, dont throw something out there because people on here will do it. you should never fill in any kinds of indents or holes w/ bondo. bondo is made only to cover small imperfections. very thin layers of bondo go on things to smooth it out. most of it gets sanded off
