Flashing Brake lights
Tuesday, October 11, 2005 7:07 AM
I am not sure what car i saw but the third Brake light was flashing when the brakes were applied. Anyway of doing this or has anyone done it. I have seen it on bikes. Nothing like a flashing third brake light to get someones attention behind you.

The car i saw it on it was just the third brake light or the high mount brake light not all of them.

ive seen that on three different cars now, and i think its most likely a broken circuit or something. doesn't seem like a "mod" cuz the cars i saw it on weren't modded or old ppl were driving them.

i honestly find them annoying, because i thought the guy was getting on and off the brake so i let off and later realized that i had to brake much harder because he really wasn't getting off the brake.

i guess it can be annoying but it is on some newer car even in Europe some cars have it. The flashing high mount brake light not all of them is suppose to get your attention than a stagnent light for those not paying close attention. That is why most signalize intersection use red flash lights if they want people to stop.

I saw it and new what it was doing didn't think it was anyone tapping the brakes because the other brake lights stayed on.

they are some automotive bulbs that flash when power is applied. designed to be put in the center brake light, AKA 3rd brake light. maybe that person bought these bulbs, not realizing it, and put them in their regular brake lights

You can put in a resistor to the 3rd light that will stop it and start it again...

A resistor won't make it "stop and start again."

they are most likely led bulbs. they sell them at autozone ( or at least the one here in SE CT. I bought them for my show truck, when applied they would flash, but when not applied they would swirl one way, stop, then go back the other way. Not sure if this is it, but thats my closest incounter with the same deal.

I don't remember what car it was, but I remember seeing one around that the 3rd break light would flash when ever the driver down shifted.
