My stupid cars low beams.. need help
Thursday, September 15, 2005 11:50 AM
I'm on my last nerve right now as far as j-bodys go and their stupid lighting systems.Every j-body i've ever worked on has had some kind of a lighting problem.

My orange car had one of the main harnesses melt almost the whole length of the car, this was related to the parking lights somehow. My brothers cavalier has screwed up turn signals that only work when they want to. My girlfriends sunfire was without turn signals all summer untill i was finally able to figure them the @!#$ out.

Now i'm on my new car, its a 97 cavalier, auto, 2.2, yeah.... the turd edition. The low beams wont work now. I tried swaping out the cluster, that wasnt it. I tried swaping out the switch, that wasnt it. The fuses are not blowing, so theres no short anywhere.

I'm seriously about ready to destroy this car, im so pissed right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Maybe even a cookie would be instore for the person who solves it

my 99 sunfire is the same way....the low beam on the drivers side doesent work but the passanger side does....all I do is drive with my high beams on. The car is low enough to make it look as if my low beams are only on.

Have you tried a whole new wiring harness yet? We had to do that on my g/f's since the previous owner @!#$ somthing up. Cured all the problems.

This is going to suck and a pain to do, but get out the tester and start at the last know source of power and troubleshoot that way. Might want to check the low beam switch itself and make sure the switch is working, then thats to check your wires. It might just be a bad wire, in that care replace it. Check fuses or relays if there are any. The easiest way to check your wires would be a continuity tester. It will usually beep or flash or signal in some way they you have good continuity between your wire. Hope this helps. Let us know how its coming. If i can think of anything else i will let you know.

just use ur high beam as low beam... by that, put in high beam harness + bulbs into low beam part of your headlight housing, that way you can use high beam as your low beam until you figured the whole thing out which might take some time...

then you just won't have a high beam which you won't use that often anyways...^^
