carbon fiber trunk lid and paint
Monday, July 18, 2005 7:08 PM
I ordered my trunk lid a litte bit ago and i have seen a few pics of peoples cars with the carbon fiber trunk on it. My car is red and i dont want to just put it on cause i think it looks like it sticks out a place a little. I want to paint it so it kinda flows with the rest of the car. I dont want to paint to much of it, just a little bit. Anyone have any pics or ideas i could do? I also ordered the CF invader hood and im going to paint it something like Darkstars and was thinking should i continue the line with the the trunk? Any ideas would help, thanks

of you would look at the line of the car the hood and the trunk do flow together the only personally I'm doing the came mod but i would have never spent the extra $$$ for carbon fiber if i was just going to paint on it .... just my opinion

Red is a difficult color to pair up with cf, imo. Its alot more difficult to do tastefully than some, but a cf hood and trunk combo would be a good setup.

So you think i should just leave the hood and trunk lid carbon fiber and not paint? the hood i dont have much of a proplem with. its how the trunk lid will look. I dont want it to look like it was just stuck thier, im wanting everything to flow.

If I were you I would leave the hood and trunk unpainted. I would paint the top half of the car black. I think it would look good. Mabye you can ask someone to photoshop your car that way before u acutally do it to see what it looks like.

What's next? Cloth hoods! I'm selling 4 bolts of silk for the lowest bidder - 10hp gain!

My opinion: leave both unpainted, black roof, and then paint the tops of the door and back window black also - use the line of the windows as the border for the black, then curve up from the mirror to the hood.

Here is a pic of a carbon fiber roof compliments of jnight32:

Thought I could throw a trunk shot in there. Good luck with whatever path you choose

I have the VIS CF Invader hood and JSP CF trunk.
I mounted my stock LS spoiler on the trunk lid and painted my hood. It looks amazing from what people tell me.
The VIS trunk lid has a lock, which is stupid becuase I have a trunk popper. The JSP is competely shaved except for the inner tails.

He had a shop lay the cf over the metal(i think he said the guy was a professional who lays carbon fiber on aircraft or something). cost him a pretty penny.
