i recently got my car back from the shop. they painted the new door that was put on and blended it into the quarter panels, and clear coated it. is there an amount of time i should wait before i wax it?
well... just to be on the safe side... I would wait 2 to 3 months....
30 days. It needs time to fully cure. It is hard on the surface but at a molecular level it is still hardening. Sometime with shoty work you will actually see sanding marks come through after a while.
Does that go for washing too? How long before you can wash it?

you can wash a day or 2 later. i wouldnt wax it for atleast 3 months, i know some body shops that say 6 months just to be completley safe.
if the product is not baked at 140 to 150 degree`s then yes only wait a month
i know with ppg you can cook the product let it cool for an hour and then wax or do anything ya want to it
so they say
so let`s get the info right before posting guys
can i haz bondo
If the paint is cooked/baked then yes after it cools you can polish/wax if you want.
As soon as my body guy placed my fender and body kits on my car, 2 hours after removing from the oven, they put a fresh coat of wax on it.
I take my car to a Chevy dealership to do all of my body work, but I have been friends with the body shop manager/owner for a long time, so I don't get raped in the wallet.
Personally I don't care if it's baked or not...
It's always better to be safe than sorry... I'd wait at least a month before waxing.
Baking a part will NOT automatically cure all the paint and clear immediately. It'll cure the first few "layers" quickly... but it's no sure shot for curing the WHOLE depth of the paint.
Some opinions may differ...
I say it's always better to be safe than sorry
i was told for washing not to use presure washer just home hose.... dunno for sure just what i heard
Best bet is to get ahold of the body shop that did your work. Ask them what their reccomendation is. If they tell you it is ok to wax today, then go ahead. That way, if anything goes wrong w/ the paint, at least then you have their word on it, and they should, I say again should, guarantee their work for anywhere between 1-7 yrs. Find out from them, because they are the ones who are gonna have to fix it if anything goes wrong on their word. At least, that is what I reccomend.
it's a good reputable place, they do garuntee their work. the guy even called up my insurance and made them dish out an extra $480 to get the drop done right. i need to stop back there for touch up paint, someone banged their door into mine (not the newly replaced). so i'll just ask him, i'm assuming 1-3 months. thanx again for all the info everyone, greatly appreciated.
