after 2 days of finding which wire to cut, id figure i'd make a post on a how to on toyota taillights installation and wiring. in addition to the instructions(which has already been provided as you know), im adding pictures(cuz some of us are visual learners like myself). mods, sticky this if you feel that this is worthy of it... ok here we go!!!!
the product:
the materials you will need:
electrical tape
solder tool OR
butt connectors (your choice)
about 10 ft of extra wire
wiring cutter/splicer
7mm socket and socket wrench
and most importantly, patience!
the install:
Pop off the steering column top cover. You may need to unscrew 3 t-25 torx head/7mm bolts under the steering wheel column to do this.
the tool:
this is the 3 t-25 torx head/7mm bolts under the steering wheel column that you have to take off:
Locate the white wire on the turn signal switch harness. This is the feed from the brake switch, which tells the signals to flash on and off the brake light on each side. Do not confuse it with the gray cruise control wire. DOUBLE CHECK that it IS the brake wire by testing with a multimeter or a test light. It should have +12 volts when you press the brake pedal. Cut the white wire and tape it off. Give it an inch or so, just in case if you have to reconnect it in the future.
here are 2 good pictures that show the famous white wire that they are talking about.
this is where it's located:
this is a pic of the white wire cut:
Reinstall the steering column cover.
In the trunk, either cut off the factory plug to the brake light, or pull the wires out of the plastic connector. You can solder the new connections or use butt connectors (your choice).
Ok now, this can throw some people off, which is why I took some pix to explain this.Rewire the plug as follows: the black wire (ground) goes to black, brown wire (marker lights +) goes to brown, yellow from car (left signal +) to light blue on Left tail, green from car (right signal +) to light blue on Right tail.
drivers side wiring of the wiring harness:
an illustration of the black wire (ground) going to black, brown wire (marker lights +) going to brown, and yellow from car (left signal +) to light blue on Left tail
passengers side wiring of the wiring harness:
an illustration of the black wire (ground) going to black, brown wire (marker lights +) going to brown, and green from car (right signal +) to light blue on Right tail.
in the pix you also se the white wire hooking up to another white wire. you will need to buy about 10ft of extra wire in order to acheive this next part.
Tap into the white wire(s) that go to the third brake light/high stop light on the spoiler or rear deck. If you don't have one, you should at least have the wiring for it under the rear deck. Using some extra wire, connect the white wire from the third brake light to the remaining wires: yellow on left tail, green on right tail. NOTE! Some 02 models (and possibly 03 models) should use the yellow 3rd brake light wire. DOUBLE CHECK the brake wires with a multimeter or test light first.
in my case i didn't have a third brake light/high stop light on the spoiler or rear deck, but the wiring for it under the rear deck was there. here is a pic of the extra white wire i bought connected to the wiring under the rear deck:
Now test everything and it should work! hope this helps everyone in the future....

Anywho, thats a great write-up, should be stickied, and while some of the pics were blurry, I was able to understand around 95%, and what cant be seen in those pics can be made out in some of the later pics.

Hey, somthing else I noticied...I see that it's a Z24, so why does it have the base's grey (tweed-like) seats?
Also, you shoud add that car to your profile, it looks like you have no car
well it had acura integra gsr leather seats that didn't even line up to the stock brackets and the seats could not move back and forth....so i swapped it out with my old interior from my cavalier that i recently sold....it pays to save your stock stuff. as far as adding the car to my profile, i'm not going to until it gets a makeover..

update: to it's been a week since i installed my toyo-tails and for some odd reason when i brake, the brake light doesn't come on,?,?,? and i know i cut the right wire becasue my amber bulbs don't light up when i brake....any suggestions??
FEAR THE MINI
When I did my 2000+ toyos I never cut the wire ontop of the steering colum and mine worked fine hmmmm
no thats not it becasue before when i hit the brake the amber bulb lit up...when i cut it, it stopped but at the same time it didn't light up on the brake light like it's supposed to do...
FEAR THE MINI
You need to attach the brake lights (on the Toyota tails) supply wire (white? green? yellow? I forget.. whatever wires you should have left over) to the white wire from the existing third brake light. If you don't do that, the brake lights won't work.
<a href="http://www.lenkorules.com/"><img src="http://s93165229.onlinehome.us/images/zm/sig/LRDCsig3.jpg"></a>
i did attach it to the 3rd brake light and it doesn't work...
FEAR THE MINI
Just a quick question.. so the ones on the deck lid are the same as stock? wiring wise?

What year is your car. I had some issues when i installed mine turned out that one of my wires had a different color. I think lenko was using a 2000 and i had a 99.
