anyone used "night shades" ??
Wednesday, June 15, 2005 6:40 PM
I was just wondering if anyone has used "NIGHT SHADES" -- the spray on tint for taillights and such.

I am wanting to spray tint my motorcycle taillight and turn signals and need to know if this stuff is any good, easy to use, etc.

THANKS!

Works pretty good. Looks like primer until you clear coat them. click on the my car link to see what it looked like on my car.

Very easy to use. make sure you use a clear coat afterwards if you want them shiney. if you have raised letters on your lights you might want to put a couple of coats of clear down, then nightshade then clear again. you need to build up the area around the letters or you will have to put several coats on to hide them(from Experience). practice spraying on a spare piece of plastic. you really dont want runs on your taillights.

Hope that helped

I put three coats on my tails and they're really dark:

I'd advise only one or two. It looks much lighter before it sets.

It was really easy to do though. Just scruffed up the tails lightly with 800grit sandpaper, cleaned the hell out of them, and then applied three coats of nite shades, 30 minutes apart, then put three layers of clearcoat on and left them overnight to dry.

Also if you have raised letters, with a little bit of time and patience you can wetsand them off with 800 grit, I've done this multiple times.

Spray as many coats as you prefer, if it's too dark you can wetsand a coat off with 2000 grit. I did so on some old tails, then cleared them. If you can build up enough clear you can also wetsand it with 2000 grit to lose the spray can texture, then buff them back with a rubbing compound/polish of sorts.

I got pulled over twice for my tail lights. Got a ticket both times for "improper taillights" or something like that. This was in Ontario, took it to court twice and the cop didn't show up. No tickets for me.

I did three coats with no clear afterwards.
