Removing paint
Tuesday, June 14, 2005 9:56 PM
Recently, my neighbor backed into the passenger side fender of my black 03 Cavy. Crunched up the fender pretty good.. had to have it replaced. All that's taken care of now.. looks great. They did an excellent job of blending the hood, door and bumper.. my problem is, is that aparrently it was too much work to mask off the mesh griulle I put in my stock bumper because a couple days after getting my car back, I noticed a slight bit of 'overspray' on the mesh. It's not too noticable.. but in the right light, you can see it.. plus I know it's there. So my question is.. what can I use to remove auto paint from an aluminum mesh grille without damaging the mesh?

why dont you take it back to the shop and tell em for the money you paid, they did a crappy ass job....

believe me...the shops reputation is worth more than a little overspray on your mesh

get some acetone. or go to the shop and tell them they suck. Or tell them to buy new mesh for you.

Well see.. I paid nothing for it.. my neighbor made sure everything was taken care of.. since he's one of the head guys at the shop (it's a very reputable shop). And as much of a pain in the ass as it was to cut the mesh at the perfect angle to fit in the bumper.. I'd rather just be able to get the paint off of what's in it now, than to make the shop/my neighbor buy me a new sheet of mesh (and the sealane and the screws to hold it all in place) and go through all the work of removing my bumper and cutting the new sheet.. you get the idea.

If its a reputable shop, they shouldn't have a problem fixing their mistake.

Why not just flip the mesh around?

Go to (I shudder to say it.)AutoZone and pick up some "neverdull" it will brighten up your mesh and remove over spray, only prob is you will have to go over the whole grill to make it look uniform.

That's what I'm hoping.. I need to ask my neighbor. See.. since he works there, he was able to get it done at cost.. meaning they didnt make any money off it at all, not even an insurance check. I think that "annoyed" the co-owner of the place because every time I called about my car (which was only when he told me to call), he seemed aggrivated. Of course it could've been that he's the co-owner and has a ton of crap on his mind all the time *shrug*

It's in the stock 03 Cavy bumper.. no way to just flip it around.. it's cut and bent to fit along the curves of the bumper.

And to whoever suggested 'neverdull', I work at advance and we sell it there too.. so if nothing else works, I might go for that.
