Is it legal or illegal to have no light above your license plate? like on the cavaliers how they got it just mounted above the license plate in the back bumper

as far as i know it is illegal in every state. actually in most states its illegal to modify lighting at all
im sure it would be since they wouldnt be able to read your plate numbers
It is illegal in every state since it would be near impossible to read your plate number at night.
Well since I assume your in Pennsylvania:
PA Title 75 Chapter 43 § 4303. General lighting requirements.
(b) Rear lighting.--Every vehicle operated on a highway shall be equipped with a rear lighting system including, but not limited to, rear lamps, rear reflectors, stop lamps and
license plate light, in conformance with regulations of the department. If a vehicle is equipped with a centrally mounted rear stop light, a decal or overlay may be affixed to the centrally mounted rear stop light if the decal or overlay meets all applicable State and Federal regulations.

Im going with bagged cavy 08, If they cant read your plates in 100% of the states they can write you for it. here in Indiana they will pull u over no matter what on something like that.

The same thing happend to my friend's 3000GT. He got caught on I-294 and they complained about the same thing and gave him a notice to get it fixed. Cops are REAL anal about lighting around here, lol
well its a secondary law in minnesota. My friends dad is a sheriff and he told me they cant stop you for just that reason. You have to be speeding or something to get a ticket for it. He doesnt even have one on his malibu.
Bah damit looks like i am giong to have to cut a whole in my back bumper for the light i got the drift back bumper

nope take a dremel and just notch out just enough for the bulb to shine through. i think mines only like an 1 1/2" square i cut out and it lights up the plate fine
not bad at all. i purchased a "license plate light" at auto zone. just cut a square notch, put it in, and screw it on, and wire it up. done and done. good luck.

Maybe get some of those license plate bolt lights...?
