MMS Lambo Install quests.

Hey guys, I just got this kit today, (well, actually it got delivered last week, but I've been out of town) and I was reading through the directions tonite. I noticed it says to take the fenders off, and I was wondering why that's necessary or if any of you guys were able to do it without removing the fenders. I've got the Streetfire sideskirts on, and would have to remove them to get the fender off, plus my fenders are under some pressure to fit the front kit. All of these factors equal my a$$ is too lazy to do all of that if there is any way to avoid it.

I'm also wondering about the fitment, cause if we're talking about rolling the fenders, I might as well just start calling shops right now. My knowledge is pretty much limited to engines, I'm brand-new to this bodywork stuff.

I bought the kit because it's advertised as bolt-on, but this is looking like it'll involve a few more bolts than I was expecting.

Hope y'all can help. Thanks in advance.

You will have to either remove the fender or do as i did pull it back as far as u can and get a friend to hold it while u bolt the hinge on (cause my sides where molded to the fender) but its a pita, You will definatly have to move the fender outta the way. As for rolling u most likely wont have to , u just have to bend the two tabs down on the fender..let me know if u got any other ?????????goodluck

Hey, thanks man. I've got a couple of guys coming over to help out, so I'll probably just have one of them hold it outa the way. If anyone else has any ideas, I'd still like to hear em.

Let me get this straight though- to pull the fender back, I'll still have to remove those rear bolts right? Would it be possible to take the top bolts out and pull it down instead of forward? That might keep me from having to take off the side skirts, because to pull it straight forward, I'll have to take the bolts off in the wheel well where the side skirt wraps around. Which is one of the big things I'm looking to avoid. At least pulling it forward I won't have to worry about the front clip. Which is major pita number 2 I'm looking to avoid screwing with.

Thanks again for the input, man.

trust me, take the fenders off. it'll be so much easier than trying to get your hands in with the fender pulled away than it would without the fenders there. not to mention, you run FAR less chance of screwing up your fenders by removing them than trying to half-ass it cause you're lazy and bend or crease the fenders. i've installed those lambo doors and i know how much of a bitch it is to get to them with nothing obstructing the way, and with the fenders still on there, it'll be nothing short of a headache.

Okay, I was looking at the setup tonite out in the garage, and I can see how it would seriously get in the way. The major thing I'm concerned with though , is once I get that front clip off, how do I get it to fit right again? As I mentioned before, there is some tension on the front of my fenders where the previous owner bent them in to fit the front bumper (very, very $#!tty job too, I think you can see the frickin crease in the picture in my profile) I'm worried that when I take that fender off it's gonna flex it enough to pop paint off at that crease.

I'm thinking that I'll try to just pull it back enough to get in there, and if it's looking like too much stress on the fender or if I'm having too much trouble getting in there, I'll just break down and pull the thing off. I'm not too worried about getting in there, though- I learned how to work on cars with a '72 V-Dub Bug. you wanna talk about PITA??? lol, try rebuilding the itty-bitty carburetor on one of those bad boys, and then getting it back on with about half an inch between the bottom of the bolt and the intake manifold. lol.

Thanks for the input, y'all- I really appreciate it.

the thing about the MMS Chin-Wah lambo doors is that you need to trim off two things.

a metal flap that sticks out from the side of the car, and a metal tab on the fender that holds the back half of it by the door jamb. good freaking luck if you can do that with the fender still on there.

and what are you talking about they bent the front clip to get it on? there's probably a dozen clips on the front end. which ones? i don't see what you're talking about in your registry. and the fenders are metal, they aren't going to "pop" back into shape if you take them off.

Sorry, I didn't mean they bent the clips, I meant to say the moron bent the FENDERS. To see what I'm talking about check out the side-view of my car enlarged. look at the front of the wheel well about halfway between the top of the bumper and the top of the fender, there is a visible crease in the fender. I know that won't pop out completely, but there is obviously some tension in there, and metal does flex back slightly when you release tension on it. I'm worried about the process of of taking off and re-installing that fender flexing the paint loose. I already have a chip right at the sharp point on the driver's side, and I'm really not liking the idea of that expanding.

As far as the tabs you are talking about go- I'll have to wait til I get in there to see them. How thick are they? Are we talking hacksaw or sawzall here? And Sunfireextreme mentioned bending them outa the way- would that work, or is it easier to just get rid of them?

Thanks for putting up with my newb questions about this, like I said, I'm new to body-work.

the tabs aren't very thick at all... but i don't think you'd really be able to get to them with a hacksaw or sawzall... get yourself a dremel. you can follow Sunfirextreme's advice and just bend the tabs down... doesn't matter, as long as you get them out of the way of the hinge itself.

Good deal. I see the tabs you're talking about. When I bend those out of the way, though, will the hood hinges be enough to hold that fender in place, or is there a trick to nailing that back side down once the tabs are removed?

maybe it's time to get new fenders.....if these ones are damaged just replace them, since your going to need to take them off to put the lambo hinges on, you might as well replace them all together

I'd love to get new fenders, unfortunately my finances are at their limit right now, and will be so until at least November or so. Actually, I'm tapped out clean into the new year- this kit was my Birthday/Christmas present to myself for the next year or so. I'm getting some chips in the paint though- as I mentioned in an earlier post- and I'd definately like to throw some snazzy fenders on before I get it repainted. The crease is really only visible when the light hits it right- that picture in my profile just happened to catch it, so it bugs me, but not enough to go any deeper into debt than my poor a$$ already is lol.

About rolling the fenders- is there anyway to tell if I'm gonna need to do that BEFORE i get it all torn up, or do I pretty much have to throw it all in and then just drive it flappin down to the bodyshop?

Here's another newb question for you guys. Assuming I just have a buddy pull that fender back (I think I've found a way to make that work actually- if it pans out, I'll tell you my secret) which bolts do I need to remove to accomplish the feat? I see the one inside the hinge area, and I'm assuming I have to take out the hood hinge, but if someone could give me a heads up on the locations of all of those bolts (and the number of them I'd have to remove to pull it back so my itty bitty brain can double check that I've got them all) I'd be much appreciative.
