Hello everyone I went to buy a CF hood from a friend the other day. But when I went to look at the hood it looked good. The only problems was the edges seemed cloudy and in the middle of the hood it had a cloudy spot. It looked like the clear coat was messed up. Is there a way to fix it or clean that up?? What is the casue of the fogginess? And does anybody have this problem??? I dont have a digital camara so I cant post pics but if some one does please post pics so people can see what I am talking about.

I'm betting that the hood was never clear coated over. Though most carbon fiber hoods and whatnot come with that thick clear resin finish, it still needs to be professionally sprayed with clear coat. Buffing the cloudy areas with compound might do the trick, but you're still going to have to have it cleared over.

I don't really know what type of compound to tell you to buy, I just use the stuff at work. Try hitting up a marine supply store, they should have something that will work. And it is bad to not clear coat a hood because it will not have any UV protection.

I just asked the seller and he said its UV protected. Just one more question. How will the compund clear up the fogginess? It seems like the fog is coming from under the clear coat/resin that the hood has?

theres nothing you can do about the fog. i know people that have tried to fix it. it works good for a bit, then the fog comes back
Yah if you wanna try to buff it out with compound go get some 3M perfect it FINE CUT. The stuff should be a white color not the yellow color stuff. The white is less abrasive. Get a low speed buffer and apply some in a small area then work on it. Do not push hard. Do not leave the buffer in one spot. Then after it stops spreading in the area that you were doing wipe with a clean rag. If it got it out then good if not then I would suggest sanding the whole hood with 1200 and clear coating it.
You can also compound by hand. I am not sure if eather of my suggestions will work but the compound is atleast worth a try.
Or hell you can make a paint design and cover up the fog.
