OK so I have an 01 2 door z24 and I need to take the door completely off the car too fix a dent and repaint it. I was wandering how you disconect all the wiring that runs from the car itself to the door. Is there a place where you can just disconect a plug or something, if so where? I'm pretty sure there's a better way than cutting the wiring and then having to splice it all back together. Anyway I tried searching for old posts about this and couldn't come up with anything. Oh and thanks in advance for the help.
get out your wire cutters
clipping the wires will probably be the easiest way... otherwise you can remove the interior panel, clip the wires right at their connections and resoder them later.
trace each wire into the door, disconnect the wire. remember were each wire goes.once you have disconnected all the wires, remove the door. then, once the door is back on, reconnect all wires. i would not cut the wires, but that's me. i gotta change out both doors on my car soon

if you have time( and a place to store your car). if not, then cut your wires. but solder them when reconnecting the wire. it will save you from alot troubles down the road

DO NOT CUT YOUR WIRES!!!!
Take out your interior panel and disconnect all your wires/clips from their devices.
you SHOULD be able to pull out the entire wiring harness through the hole in your door, where they all go through. After you're done, you'll have to feed them through, but it's much better than cutting your wires.
ya what she said
NEVER CUT THE WIRES!!!!
once you have the trim panle off mark where the harness goes so when you re install the harness you won`t be scratchin your head and sayin where and how did the wire go??
and why do you have to take off the door to fix a dent?? are you replacing the door skin??? that`s my guess
no need to remove a door for a dent
unless you are also replacing the rocker or hinge pillar
just thought i would ask
can i haz bondo
yeah I really didn't want to cut any of the wiring but wasn't sure if there was a better way. I'll try taking the interior panel off and unplugging everything. Big Daddy I'm taking the door off because we need to fill a dent and then repaint it and that's just how my dad wants to work on it. Part of the reason is because there really isn't enough room to paint everything in our garage with the door on the car. I will also be painting my kit at the same time. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
i dont have to worry about this because the only wires i have going into my door are the speaker wires because i have power nothing.....so i could care less if i have to reattach speaker wire
The time you spend removing all the wires is about the time you would spend trying to reconnect them in that little space between the door and the pillar.
unless you have lambos and you have more room
I have lambo's and had to extend my wires, you dont get a ton of extra room lol
THE WORLDS FIRST GAY POTATO!:Amaze and delight your friends, dress it up, take it to the cinema or just sit and admire it's firm silky buttocks and when your bored of it .. lob it in a casserole dish with some onions and carrots.
Why would you remove the door to fix a dent? Leaving it mounted will make the repair job easier.. But if you insist.. unclip the wires and pull them out. It's a cavalier.. what else could you have besides a speaker hook up and maybe power locks and windows.

well all your doin is making more workfor your self
like i said no need to remove a door just to fix a dent
but it`s ur car you do what you want
you and your dad must like doin more work and make thing hard on your self`s
can i haz bondo
To everyone telling me that all I am doing is just making extra work. I'm not stupid I realize that it's extra work. It adds an extra step so therefore it's going to be more work. I don't think you read my whole post carefully cause if you did you would understand why I'm taking it off. I am going to repaint the door the same time I paint my body kit and there's not enough room in the garage for the whole car and the parts for the kit to all fit in at the same time. You can't fit 10 lbs of sh*t in a five pound bucket. Since we have to basically convert the garage to a paint booth while we are painting we want to get it all done at once. Any way not trying to be an @!#$ but it didn't seem like people were understanding why I was taking the door off to fix it rather than leaving it on. We're going to fix it on the car but take it off to repaint it.
I switched the passenger doors on my two cars today. I DID cut the speaker wires. Only because I couldn't pull the the little plastic push thingy's that attach the wire to the door though the door @!#$hing. I'm gonna soldier them back together. driver doors will be done when I have enough daylight to do them and the to do the wiring. if i do the doors and not the wiring, then I'll either have to leave the windows crack or jerry rig the doors so i can get in ( this is the down side of having shaved door handles)
