I have a 96 Sunfire with an automatic convertible top. Was really cool until i tryed to put it down today and it wouldn't go, i checked the fuses and made sure the switch in back was on normal use. The motor doesn't make any npise when i pull the handle.
Does anybody know any quick fixes i can try? Any similar problems?
I am around Buffalo NY. Does anybody know somewhere locla i can take it that won't rape me on a price to fix it or even tell me what's wrong?
replace the motor, they do go bad eventually
wouldn't it make a some kind of a noise though? absolutly nothing is happening, and would that cause it to just suddenly stop?
I'll check it out, thanks~
dumb Q, save me some searching, where is it, i've nebver tackled anything on this car as of yet
No, not really, i know when window motors burn out they dont make any noise at all
time to replace the motor mine is going as well. if it ever stops when you are taking it up or down or gives you problems it is new motor time.
Are you guys apsolutely sure that you have to replace the motor, because mine is doing the same, but only on the left side. I worked sometimes, and now never works at all. When I try to move it up and down manually, the left side seams to be frozen up and takes some strength to move it.

There are two motors... one on each side.
If neither will work, it's probably the switch or circuit breaker. Grab a multimeter and start checking wires for power

Where are the convertible top fuses and breakers?

I got a clue : maybe in the fuse panel
(note : honestly I don't know)

Yup, fuse panel. Fuse is "PWR ACC" and the circuit breaker is the silver box at the bottom.

Also make sure the Emergency Switch in the trunk is not activated if both motors are not working...

bingo, that was my first thought....funny thing is, I have not once flipped that switch in the 3 years I owned my car? I think I might go play with it...just for fun lol
So let me get this straight, the gm part number for the motor is: 12365668, which is over $300 from gmpartsdirect, and the front weatherstripping around the window is: 12335401, which is about $225?
scary thing about it is i am planning on replacing my entire top this winter so i wont have to worry about leaks for a very long time.
