what on earth can i use to polish this thing nothing is working <br>
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
iv used mothers worked ok but the cover has a lot of burrs so your best bet is get it powder coated mines getting done up in 2 weeks.
You'll have too grind and sand the whole thing down first to get the surface free of defects then get some black and then red polishing rouge and buff it with a buffing wheel (either in a drill or a bench mounted buffer) then finish up with something like the mothers, or blue coral aluminum polish, mother will cut alittle better though, although the blue coral with give alittle more shine. Or you could just send it to me and I'll acid dip, bead blast, sand, chrome plate, and finally polish it for you! lol

Seen them on ebay a few weeks back if you wanted to buy one that was polished. I think they were about 200 bucks but I'm not sure
here comes the boost!
i used scotch brite pad grit 00 and 0000 along with mothers
the g/fs came out nice
you can still see some of the flaws but it looks 100% better

2.2 Ecotec Swap Completed!!!
I used wetsandpaper...
Start at 320, 480, 600, 1000, then 2000.
By the time you hit the 2000, it shines... It isnt chrome, but it's a great way to do it inexpensively!

question regarding the black plastic piece on top of the valve cover on ecotec engines, can this be powder coated?

now really! think about that statement, how is a magnetic charged coating going to adhear to plastic....
i thought only metal could be but according to:
http://www.powdercoatingit.com/sub11.htm
"Any metal other than "White Metal" can be Powder Coated as well as Glass, Wood, and Fiberglass. The only real restrictions are that the part must be able to withstand 450 degrees."
use a SOS pad on it first, it will save you ALOT of time!!! Try it on a part for 5 seconds, and you'll all see what I mean. After that use polish. But for those who already sanded it, go out next time you polish it and try a new SOS pad. It works GREAT!! It also works on all the aluminum lines in your engine bay.
I just used the Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish and a cloth on the valve cover and all the metal lines in the engine bay and it looked great (pics are at my Car Domain site, which is in my sig).
