I ran a search and couldn't find anything, even though I know this has been a topic before.
My question is, does anyone have pictures of how this mod is done on a '95-'99 Z24. I don't really need pics of thefront with the hood itself being opened. I need the finished product and placement of the hinges UNDER the hood.
I'm buying a parts car LeSabre T-Type for my T-Type, and I'll have an extra hood hinge, that I'll want to incorporate into the Z24. Problem is, I've never done this before.
So, where exactly do the hinges go? Do you have to cut the hinge and re-weld it to shorten it's width or will it fit right in? Will I be able to use the locking hooks that Buicks have at the base of the windshield, or will I have to use hood pins?
Pics of exact locations of everything would be VERY helpful.
Thanks guys!
you will have to shorten the hinge. i picked up an extra hinge from a lesabre a few months ago. and i didnt get the locking hooks that goes with it...i decided to use locking hoodpins instead. as for the rest of the info, i havent actually done it yet so i cant say. good luck and if you do it, get some pics!

Thanks Tobasco, I also saw someone else posted a similar question after I did. He also didn't get an answer.
The most I can provide you with is a photo of what the existing hood hinge looks like on my LeSabre T-Type, and try to build off of that.
I figure SOMEONE here MUST have the how-to answers that we need, but who???
My overall goal is to make a T-Type "twin" out of my Z24.
Unfortunately, someone spent money on blue reverse gauges for the Z before I bought it, so red interior lighting won't be used. However, LeSabre T-Types came with red, white, and yellow tail lights. So I bought the matching Toyota Cavalier tails. Both cars are black, and both have the same sound system brands. My LeSabre is just pushing a couple extra hundred watts by using 2 extra amps and an in-dash electronic crossover.
I'd like to see this project succeed, because one of my favorite stock features on the Buick is the "Bonnette" hood. So this is why I'm looking to do it to the Z24.
:et me know if you hear anything as far as install instructions. (BTW, those E-Bay instructions are out, as I don't like the idea of buying the book only to find a half-assed schematic. Know what I mean?)
Thanks again!
STREETCONCEPTS: would that kit work on a cavy? who makes it?
That is more than likely the kit off the buick lesabre.. I know I'm going to be picking up a few of these to make my hood flop up.
Yes it is a Lesabre hinge.
once again, you dont have to shorten it. shortening it will make the hood not come down over the bumper as far , hence not mimicking a lesabre. they fit, i have looked at doin it on a 3rd gen too. just a bit of ingenuity. and it works better if they arent on the ouside edges of the hood. so try and put em inside at an equal distance. like the buick
So what you're saying is that the Buick LeSabre hinge system WILL fit a '95-'99 Z24 WITHOUT ANY modications needed??
If such is the case, I'll hook it up tomarrow!!!
If not, then how much do I need to cut out.
Does anything need to be removed from the nose of the car so that the hood can close tightly? I'd hate to install it, only to find it won't close all the way.
what you have to do is make some mounting plates for the hinge, and recess them into the rad support, (cut them in to the lower layer of sheet metal) and weld the plates in, then bolt on the hinges. now comes the measuring. (oh before you put the plates in make sure the hinges, in closed position, clear the engine and everything. on mine they nestled right in between the belt system and the tranny mount. ) fine out how far from the side of the hood opening, and front the hood plates are, then measure the same on the hood, taking into consideration the hood gap. if you can, close the hood and go from under the car and mark it. now make mounting boxes from sheet metal for the hood. basically make aditional hood braces so there is somewhere to mount the hinge. from there its bolt on, and if you measure right, you wont even have to align when you put the hood on those springs.
Nothing on my install is welded. You can make our own brackets to mount the hinges to with bolts to secure it and we used angle aluminum to make the brackets. By shortening the hinge I think he meant cutting the stabilizer bar and narrowing it. I had to eliminate the stabilizer bar b/c it hit my motor and intercooler.

let me get this straight with the lesabre hinges can you have the hood standing straight up!!! cause theres one cavie his is green with suicide doors.. his hood stands straight up not tilted... i was wondering if the lesabre hinges could do this or was they're another way of standing it up with it flipped over in front of your bumper, almost to the ground

here are the 2 ways
or this way

i definately like the buick hinges better, they are actually more beneficial if you want to continue to have enough room to work on the engine.
