what are the pro's and cons to doing this???
are there any disadvantages to doing this ???
i'm planning on switching ecu's so i can use an fmu
i believe this is my final answer lol
You take a women and X her by PSI devide the legs and you can then juice the car......LOL
bump for information from people that have done/used this method
thanks

only thing i know is that the 2002 has open loop capabilities
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

ya i know it has open loop capabilities thats the whole reason why i'm leaning toward this decision.
i just really want some feedback from people that have done this and what issues they faced if any at all

Since when does an 05 not have open loop???? If your refering to how the ecu continues to monitor the a/f ration and tries to keep it at 14.7:1 even during full throttle there is a very simple fix and it works ALOT better then an 02 ecu and an FMU.....
HpTuners, thats all you need, no band aid FMU, turn the power enrichment down to 0 rpm and then anytime you floor it the car wont try to lean itself out to 14.7:1 a/f ratio, then get it tuned properly and be done with it (not to mention all the other stuff you can mess with HPtuners)
I thought there was some difference between those years that made it easier when boosting or juicing the car. Obviosly HPtuners is the way to go, but it is also $$$. Would there be any reason to switch with using HPT?

electronic tuning > mechanical
more precise, especially since EFI is you know.. the E in there...
hpt ftw
does anyone know how much it cost for a shop to tune your car with hpt???

Hi, I just did the swap, but the car is not starting with the 02 ECU... what's the problem?

Not to change subject. Has anyone else heard that SCT is developing a tuner for the ecotec, if so, any updates?

WRONG! I have been doing a LOT of research with this now that my car is fixed. I have my PE set to 1000RPM, or idle for me, and OL AFR set to 12.0:1 with the enable TPS set to 30% over 3000RPM. Basically my car SHOULD shoot to ~12.0:1 AFR any time I pass 30% TPS and 3000RPM. This ain't happening though. The car seems to randomly decide to choose 11.5:1 or 17.8:1 AFR and locations in between. If I disable my VSS by physically disconnecting the sensor or I disable CL with HP Tuners it succeeds in maintaining a better AFR, between 11.5:1 and 13.4:1. I know I need slightly bigger injectors but they are only running at about 81% right now. I just can't see the 04-05 ECU being a good choice for any Ecotec boosting. I am trying to find a 03 Cavalier who needs to be tuned so I can steal his programming and get it on my computer and see if that helps the car any.
I am seeing a LOT of weird things occuring with this ECU, it is just too good and too random for power hungry people like me.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

so the answer is an 03 ecu then huh

i don't have the option to edit. i meant to say 02 ecu

I am about to do this because im getting my 03 ecu reflashed by GM and wont be going boost till spring. I bought an 02 ecu to put in the car to keep it w/ the stock tune untill then, should there be any problems with the car afterwards or is it a simple unplug old and plug in new and start the car?
Well, an 02 flash doesn't work right on an 04 pcm, tom and I decided to get adventruous last night with that and no go. Now it won't go back to an 04.

was that 04 eco ecu to an 02 2.4 s/c reflash or an 04 eco ecu to an 02 eco ecu flash?
We tried both with no luck and now can't get it to go back to 04.
The stock 02 eco tune went in just fine, but then when we went to put the 2.4 s/c tune in, hpt couldn't read the pcm for some reason.
We flashed in an 02 eco tune then proceeded to try and flash in the 02 2.4 s/c tune and it wouldn't read the pcm. Then tried to put the stock 04 tune back in w/ no luck. There is something locking us out from reading the pcm, not sure what. Tom is taking care of it though so no worries.
Now the car sits w/ a blown diff, blown ring land, and it's brain dead...this winter is not starting out well at all.
