speed density issues
Friday, June 10, 2011 10:31 PM
I just switched to speed density computer, I made it match the supercharger tune and put in a 2 bar. I also put in 55lb injectors with inj con @ 0.08837 and it was really lean, then i changed it to .17356 and it was really rich. I adjusted it until i got it to 0.12225 and got it idling @ 14.7, now my ve tables are crazy its either super rich or super lean. Should i take 20 off of all my tables and start over.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

old constant * new injector size / old injector size = new constant. be sure to correct the new injector size based on your base fuel pressure using the calculator in hp tuners. Then fix the tune. Its late and I'm rushing/grumpy so I may have remembered the formula wrong.

it probably does help that its 100 degrees out. Could it have to do with that they are accel injectors?

Old injector size/new injector size* Injector Constant = New Injector Constant

thats what i used
24/55*.20014 =.0873338 super lean. original (speed density inj cons)
29.5/55* .32359=.1735618 super rich original (sc inj cons)
24/55* .20250= .0883636 (the inj cons on all the searchs)
which one would i use for my application?

If your running a 97 speed Density file then bas it off that constant. Are you still running a 1 bar map sensor? Also changing the injector constant is not going to make the factory tune perfect. I always retune all the VE fields afterwards.

You say super lean, but when? WOT, idle what?

I got a supposed 2 bar map from the junkyard, but i ordered the one you mentioned in another forum. Its was running lean @ idle, i was going through tuning my ve tables. I just heard not to touch the idle ve table.

Here the thinkg if you are using a 2 bar map sensor on a 97 Speed Density file your gonna have to retune all ve tables. Those tables were setup on a 1 bar sensor. So the readings a 2 bar map is going to so is different and will change the idle fields it gets the fuel from.

You will either need to retune all fields, or use a 1 bar map.

Or the map i have is a 1 bar, and since i used the sc tune, that could be screwing it up to. Im using # 16187556, some sites say its a 2 bar, some say its a 1 bar. I think its a 1 bar

According to wells its a 1 bar, i think that explains alot

can you email me the file you have on the car to JMHZ2497@comcast.net

Ok I just looked at the file. This is a 97 speed Density file, which is setup to run on a 1 bar map sensor. You can run a 2 bar map, but all the VE fields will be off. Even if you run a 1 bar map sensor you will need to make some adjustments to the Ve fields.

The file you sent me has a injectors constant of .46709????

i changed that to .09000 it must not of saved, thats my original not the one im making changes. one quick question im using (actual afr - 14.7/14.7*100) does that look right?

So .46709 is what you first came up with, or what was on this file stock?

For what exactly?

No i don't know where the .46709 came from, i used 0.08837 first, then i used .17356, then i got the .12225, now im using .09000.
I'm using this to tune my ve tables (actual afr - 14.7/14.7*100). I could get afr error setup in the histograms.

I put a new iac and a 2 bar, I set my inj con to .17356 and as soon as it warms up it leans out to 19-20 afr. i did't think my tables were that far off.

OK....I may be totally wrong, as I as NOT a tuner. But I was under the impression that the big issue with tuning the 97 Speed Density ECU was that there was a table of parameters that were not visible in HPT. Thus making it difficult to tune this ECU. I was not aware that the 97 Speed Density ECU could be setup on 2bar map with out "Faking" the tune.

If someone wants to correct me that would be great. Just trying to gather information myself.

Because the 97 file was setup for a 1 bar map, and your using a 2 bar map you are going to have to retune all VE files. Just do it.

It is missing the Injector Pulse Width multi field. This does not make it unuseable.

The 97 SD file was setup on a 1 bar map from the factory, but you could use a 2 or 3 bar map sensor. It would be faking a 2 or 3 bar map, but better to fake it on a map based ecu over a non map based ECU.
