LIVE EFI Response to Custom OS Question
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 1:03 PM

Is their any type of planned or support for 96-02 Cavalier LD9 Custom OS? If not what would be required to initiate such a project?
Quote:

Hi Ben,

We have the 1997 through 2002 Cavalier listed on our Supported Vehicle page presently. I think it is highly unlikely that EFILive would produce a custom OS for these vehicles. Any significant development and commitment to maintain on-going support costs in the region of tens to even hundreds of thousands of dollars in development. That sort of investment being made by EFILive clearly has to have a market into which to sell the product to get a return on investment. We have so far not seen that this market exists.

Regards,
Andrew Jensen
EFILive Limited

Not that this answer was not expected.. However how many people here would actually buy such a product?

EFI Live just costs to much compared to HPTuners for most J-body owners.

Sadly, not enough buyers to justify their investment, so this is a dead end for us and them.

Yea that would be the response I'd expect.

i've given up on even reasonable updates from HPtuners (unlocking the eco s/c reflash and looking into IAT fueling modifiers). Sure we should be grateful for any support at all, bla bla bla.

When you look at what they give the V8 market for THE SAME PRICE, we are really getting boned. There is a perfectly good 2.5bar eco OS sitting on the shelf and they go an make several custome ones for the V8 guys. They continue spending all their time on NEW support when there's a request list that's long enough to span the earth's equator twice. I understand it's business; they already have our money and have no further committment to us, but paying the same price for what we get compared to what the V8 markets get fires me up. Of course they see it differently and would say we get a very fair amount of support and you can't compare the number of tables or features across platforms bla bla bla.

And don't get me started on the severe shafting we're getting in the LNF market (even compared to the LSJ platform).

It's all a part of being a "niche" market i suppose; if we wanted everything to be easy I guess we all wouldn't be driving GM 4-cylinders

Hp tuners along with port fueler, all the tuning you need past 1 bar on a eco, yea does suck for the supercharged guys, but we all know thats a path that doesnt lead nearly as far anyway

They gave us just enough support they could warrant taking our 650 dollars. It must have been apparent to them from the get go that being about to edit the reflash would not be likely when that in fact is what most people wanted.

The LD9 isnt what needs a custom OS, i mean its not that hard to swap harness and the computer to 00-02 and then you can run the gm reflash with hp tuners

The 02-05 eco guys is what should be approaching this company to do it, thats where the market is, LD9 is a dead platform, way outnumbered in terms of boosted cars on here for a long time, and that distance is only going to grow

How about for the 2.2 guys , maybe putting in a colorado truck P12 ecm and installing a cobalt o/s in it. Isnt the o5-07 colorado/cobalt a 7x reluctor like the 2.2 ln2?

I guess I should have started a different thread sorry. But I was talking about guys who have the Ln2 engine and need to tune for boost. Does the Ld9 engine have the same reluctor wheel as the ln2 which I think is 7x. I know the P12 pcm is a 7x reluctor wheel.

Both the LD9 and the LN2 have 7x.... You can flash the LN2 with the LD9 SC Refash. I have done this on my car, my wife's car, and on other customer's cars.

Thanks for the response. I know im missing something here but why all the fuss with people complaining that there is no way to tune a 2.2 ln2 for boost? The ld9 sc reflash is speed density and not alpha-n correct? You can tune your fuel past 105 kpa with the ld9 reflash cant you? Is it people are just saying that hp tuners cant tune for boost on the ln2 pcm because it is alpha-n. So all I really need to do is flash my ln2 pcm with the ld9 reflash? Thats it? lol. Now school me qwk ln2. Thanks By the way this is a 98 s10 2.2. There is no help on s10 forum, not any info or anything.

If I flash my pcm with the ld9 s-c reflash, I can still tune it with efi live or hp tuners correct?

I have not tried it on an S10 before, but I have heared of people trying with no success. I am pretty sure if that is the case, its something due to a Calibration/OS Pair match and it will not allow it to write. I was going to try it myself on a customer's truck, but he has since sold it. I am supposed to be tuning another S10 here soon, but I am waiting for him to finish building his motor. If you want to attempt, be my guest! Be advised, you will end up having to purchase the extra credits. If you want to attempt, you need to get an LD9 SC Reflash file and manipulate the timing tables and the fueling.. Also, being that yours is a 98, if the flash (write entire) does take, I am not sure if you will lose gauge functions like the 99 and below J bodies do due to the BCM.

What about installing an 01-02 ecm in my truck first. Then installing the s/c flash in the new 01-02 ecm?

^^^^ Ya that probably was a stupid question. Do you guys know where I can get pinouts for some ecm's, and good diagrams? I dont really want to pay for alldata for pretty much a one time use. Thanks

Hey thanks. 1998 s10 2.2 5spd also 1997 s10 4.3 v6 5spd both 2wd. We are currently installing a turbo on my brothers 4.3 and are going to attempt the 411 pcm swap. And qwk ln2 do you think you can get a pinout of a p12 pcm out of like a 04-05 colorado with the I4 2.8. Really thanks alot.

Should not be a problem. Do you have a fax# or email you prefer them to go to? I may not be able to get to them until tomorrow at after work...

I have used them both and they both have their hi's and low's... Personally, HPT has a far more superior scanner is is really key when doing propper tuning. I used to have EFI Live, but sold it and bought HPT due to them giving us the first available support for the Jbody platoform.
