megasquirt vs. alternator

got a question... All you guys running megasquirt... what did you do about the turn on lead for the alternator? should i leave it hooked up to the stock ECU? should i jump it to a switched ACC line?
I am hoping i can just jump it to a switched hot. this would make my life REAL easy. However, if i had to connect it to the stock ECU, it would be a huge pain, but it could be done. will both ways work? or does it HAVE to be hooked to the ECU? Thanks

I've always run with the stock system controlling it. I've never tried a switched hot but it should work.

well, i just tried it both ways. first, with 12 switched to the "field" wire, still gets no output. So, i hooked the field wire back to the stock ECU, still get no ouput. Finally also connected "lamp" wire back to stock ECU, then i get charge output. so, in this instance, both wires must be connected to stock ECU to work. bummer.

Hmm...do you think a alt. swap could be done...maybe to a one wire setup and have the MS turn on the alt? I'm not 100% on all this yet....would have to do some reading.

I just have the red wire connected to something 12V+ with the key on. The alternator can run by itself.

The early alt uses the flat 4 cond connector, we use a 150 ohm 5 watt resistor in term "b" to ign. this makes for a stand alone system. on the late denso alt, just connect ign to term "1". Questions ? give me a call 909 910 3867. Steve
