I'm contemplating in purchasing HPT and would like to know from the owners of this product. First, is it worth the extra $150 to get the enhanced version? To my understanding, the extra $150 gives you a scan tool to check CELs and records real-time data, is there any more functions that I'm not aware of?
I would like to know, does this also work like GM's Tech-2, i.e. could I disable DRLs, do changes outside of engine tuning, what else could I do?
How do you like your product?
Thanks for your help.

The extra $150 for the EIO/Pro is worth it. The scanner is included in both options, but with the pro you can log widebands, fuel psi, ETC... As for similarities to the tech 2, there are no fetures that work outside the PCM. BCM functions can not be altered...

You need the Pro Version to take advantage of the histograms. It's most definately worth it!
You don't
need the pro version to use histograms and log your wideband, but I'd recommend it. I use the standard right now (borrowed the cable/program from a friend) but will buy the pro when I get a chance. If you use the standard you have to find other means to log the wideband though, lol, like hook up your wideband output to the A/C Pressure Sensor input wire and monitor the voltage that way.

It is suspected that there are quite a few functions/tables in HPT yet to be unlocked on our platform. That said, it will get the job done on a mild n/a build or even a mild boosted set up. What are your goals? You can disable DTC's or just clear them as they pop up. you can log all measured engine parameters (injector PW, spark advance and knock retard, MAP reading, RPM, TPS, fuel trims, ect).
Pro version makes it easier to log external 0-5V sensors, but like mentioned above, if your willing to hack into another 5v sensor, you can log these with the standard version.
I had a trouble code that required a CASE "crankshaft variation" relearn procedure, which only a few diagnostic systems will perform. The Tech 2 is the main method, but I was able to do it with HPT. I basically bought a standard version of HPT to do this, set some more aggressive shift points, and that's it. I sold HPT after a couple of months at a loss of about $100, which was easily worth it for these services.

With his mods (Gm charger) HPT tuning could open some nice power.
Mr Goodwrench. Have you considered getting someone with HPT to tune your car and not buy it? If it is just a good tune you are wanting. I do not discourage anyone from buying the program because it is very useful in many ways.

I figured as such on the power.^
I would like to tune so doesn't run so freaking rich, especially in WOT where it leaves cat clogging plumes of smoke.
Also, by just the smell at idle it smells a little rich too ever since I installed a bigger TB.
Would HPT read the AFRs?
BTW thanks for the help people.

You would need a wideband installed and connected to HPT and then it cold read AFR. Without a wideband no.

HPTuners is on my "to buy when I have money" list, as it works with both my J and my wife's TrailBlazer (and a lot of cars I would like to own in the future
)
I bet you will be well pleased with your purchase.

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.
Ok I'm psyched I got it yesterday and installed the program on the laptop, now the problem I'm getting is licencing it to my car.
-I went to VCM editor.
-Installed the wires to all the ports
-Went to help
-Licence info
-Put application key numbers/letters
-and clicked HP icon just like the program initially told me
And nothing.
Am I missing something or is there another technique? Any help will be appreciated.

It is a great product. Only experience i have is it is this. Brian(spdracrz) was in my car (02ls sport) and we just seeing what the ecotec tables were all about as he is a 2.4 guru.
. I was driving and he kept putting the CEL on and Off, lol . Didnt really adjust much, something with the fan temp /run time and bumped up the idle to 1000. car just has a intake. not srue what i can benifit on a stock ecotec with a intake?
Neat stuff though, I personally am more used to using the program like this for a DSM called DSMLINK.
Glad you are happy, and it is cool that you can use it ONTOP of the gm s/c program. Sucks for the ecotec guys. A lot of the guys running turbos on the 2.4l will run the gm reflash as a starting point and then adjust from there with Hptuners.
Good luck.
