99 car with a 00 2.4 motor GM S/C install ECM Question

I asked this question in the boost forum (http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=40&i=156264&t=156264). However, I just realized it might be better suited here. Sorry for the double post.

Well I’m a quarter way through the install of my GM charger that I have had for years (don’t ask me why I haven’t installed it yet). Now that I have fully committed to the install I need to address the obvious fuel issue. To explain, I purchased my 2.4 in 99, but the motor was subsequently replaced by the dealer in 2000. The timing belt cover label says it’s a 00 motor with Non EGR. Now the question is, do I have a 99 ECM or a 00 ECM? Can anyone tell me how I can differentiate the difference between a 99 and 00? I obviously would be thrilled to just get the ECM re-flash.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Chris

You have a 99 ECU/ECM. Reason I now this is 2. I have a friend with a 99 Z24 that got his motor replaced under warranty with a 01 motor. his ECU is a 99. Using HPT I can see that, plus in 99 they did not have BCM's which is needed to run a 00+ ECU/program.

Weird. In the Aleros and Grand Ams you can use the reflash even with 1999.0 models.

You can use the reflash on a 99, but loose all gauges on the cluster.
