when I last had my megasquirt running, I was battling the continuing problem of the PCM only seeing half RPM due to our wastespark ignition. It worked for a while by telling the MS that I only had two cyl's but it really isnt an accepatable means of tuning.
so my question to you guys is, is it possiable to modify the signal to read properly?

Im not sure if the Eco ECM has it or not but on my 2.4L there was an unused pin for the PCM that had a full RPM signal. Emanage had no problem reading it.
Hey Jason. Which ICM did you end up running (Stock or the older style)? Or have you just decided to not run timing off of MS?

Sorry miunderstood what he was saying.

Yup sure is ,all you have to do is install an obdI ignition module

Why not ? ms is only calculating fuel for One cylinder anyway. If you are running fuel only there will not be any difference between how they run.

Ding ding ding!
A guy at the bash had a Fiero with ECOTEC + Megasquirt and had to do that. The old ICM's have the brains in them and the ECM sends an override signal to control advance. The newer cars have this all built into the ECU apparently.
No, the old ICU worked as a single channel unit similar to a distributor/single coil system.
The new ICU are split into 2 single channel systems, one for each coil, to comply with OBD2 required diagnostics and control levels (i.e. Misfire control and monitoring).
The brains in the ICUs and PCMS are the same as they have always been. The newer ones just have a set of two in each instead of one.

I can switch to the older ign modual and that will read out a full RPM range as oppesed to the half im getting? and its taped in the same place.
btw the only reason I said it wasnt an accetable meathod was because I do plan to run spark, and I want full comprehesion of my computer, other wise it just feels like a band aid

Seems to work for me.
I don't know where you are getting a tach signal from the ECO ICM, but there are two identical tach signals coming from the older ICM's (pins B & C), that give the true rpm signal. One is designed to go to a tach and the other to the ECM. But if you do it how I told you to before, you don't HAVE to run an external tach.

cool. I really apprciate this guess

What version MS and what version code are you running. Cause the MS-II extra ver 1&2 supports raw crank trigger decoding so there is no longer a need to use the older Q4 module. I've even got COP running with it aswell. so no more crappy wasted spark BS.
The reason I mention is because then a RPM signal would incredibly easy to acquire from the MS.
EDIT: spelling!!!!

Hey Joshua, where did you download the extra code for MS-II. I downloaded the one I found on msefi several weeks ago, but when I looked through the code, I didn't find much different than some of the newer Megatune codes.

dont i need an ms 2 board?
"

V3.0 boards are all the same regardless whther you have MS-I or MS-II. All you would need is the MS-II
c64 proc. If you have the V2.2 board then yes, you would have to replace it all.
Edit: Forgot there are a couple of jumpers that should be soldered as well if switching from MS-I to MS-II procs

Hey,
If you use the OBD1 ( 93 and older ICM) it has a wire for a tach that puts out a full signal, *I think* I had it running to a sunpro tach that had switchable 2,4,6,8 cylinder modes, I am away from home, but my setting should still be on the tach (whether it was 2 or 4 cylinder mode) and I can tell what the signal coming from the ICM is

Did you get this working JCavi? can anyone elaborate about reading the raw crank trigger? I'm in the process of getting a MS2, v3.0 board, and was planning to run fuel and spark on it, as well as boost controller and some other things.
Wow, talk about dead. I was thinking of getting the MSD adapter, for like $70 to get this to work, but wants some opinions first. I've tried the rk sport adapter, and it failed....
hey guys .. im obd2 and im very interested on getting this megasquirt on my carr as well .. so i have a few questions ..
if i get the MS2 will i need anything else as far as equipment .. or parts ? or it will be just ready to tune .. im planning using it for my ld9 non eco with turbo
thanks appreciate all possible help
I did get it working. I dont remember what was said on the thread, but what worked for me was just using a waste spark tach adapter. the only problem is most adapters will produce half rpm's
polloz24 do your self a favor go to the megasquirt forum and just start reading. and you know youll be ready to start purchasing when you can awnser your own questions.
