ok this might be a dumb? and something thats been answered a million times. if i buy hpt and i find someone thats running exactly what i am can i coppy there file and adjust mine and assume that its a good baseline to start tuning with rather than just go out and tune from stock? maybee this whole tuning thing is misleading to me.

Yes you can do that. What are you going from, and your set-up? Meaning are you N/A with stock ECU? If so just tune it. Now if you are boosted and need a file to start you off and keep it a little safe ok.

If this is the case, take it to someone who understands and knows what they are doing...

you cant copy and paste the tune, you have to copy each value over from the tune to yours.

Yes you can. As long as it is the same kind of file (example 2.4 N/A to 2.4 N/A, or 2.4 GM reflash to 2.4 GM reflash).

no we tried this. you have to unlock the file as well using credits. ive tried this and the file has to be licenced.

i tried it using a few ecotec files and it wanted to make me license the file again to use it.

John is correct IF you have the model year license..... Otherwise you would have to do what Vincent is referring to....

well im going to turbo my 2200 its stock now and i just feel that since no one really deals with the cavaliers and our motors it might be better than having someone screw up my motor. im sure if i got a decent base to start with i could finish the tune. im not trying to steal anyones tune or work i just want to be safe since im boocting a stock motor. and like i said the tuning stuff is new to me. and anyone with a thought on if a neo is a good choice let me know i made a new post in tuning thanks

Your right... Taking it to a pro that knows about tuning in general is a bad idea.....

as have i, u do not need to copy and paste over every little table, u can go in a section and copy everything over at once. u go to the compare section and then u can copy over all the differences. i believe thats how its done, but i know for a fact it can be done, im runnin a 97 automatic computer with a 99 manual tune copied over. i only have the 97 pcm unlocked

st louis... and my only problem is i dont know anything about the hp tuner or tuning so even if someone let me have there file to copy its not going to be 100% right for my car. unles we live in the same town and have the same setup and if that were the case i could just have that person tune my car.i just need a baseline since finding someone with j body knowledge is few and far between. i need to drive this car to the place in getting it tuned. andyways if i am only running 8 psi do i need an hp tuner. i plan on running a cartech rising rate fmu and 30# injectors. wouldnt the fmu compensate for the fuel im gonna need or do i need to adjust the timing as well?
