tuning without spending money?

This is probably a really dumb question, But is there any way to tune a 96 cavalier not a z24 or ls just regular automatic without buying any aftermarket parts? if not thats fine..

i guess when you dump more money inro your car then you originally spent on it, then start to win awards and such, you become an arrogant son of a b!tch.....have a little respect for those of us who dont have the mechanical or technical ability that others may have....dumb questions often lead to smart answers, and efficient solutions,

Only real tuning would be HPT, it's alotta cash it seems but you can tune every aspect of the ecu with it, timing, air fuel, take governor off, change shift points, tranny line pressure ect.

I agree this was a dumb question. Reason so is because how do you really expect to tune anything without spending something. Even if yoou are talking about different plugs, or those secret mods (some cars have) you still have to spend some money to get those.

sorry, but do I post questions about boost in the nitrous forum? or about brakes in the exterior forum? perhaps you two can take a look at the description for the tuning forum (which happens to be this one)
tuning forum description wrote:Engine management and tuning, stock and aftermarket systems can be discussed here. Information found here is mostly of very advanced nature and as such should not be approached lightly.

when I come to this forum, I'm not looking for someone asking how to install an intake. I don't appreciate people posting trash here.. thats what the noob section is for.

I stand by my statement, this question is way below the scope of this forum.
to the OP, please post in the proper forum next time.

keeping things organized and posted properly is the key to having an "organization".

and just to humor both of you as well as the OP, there is no point to tuning a car with no modifications. what are you tuning for? the gain in power will be little if any.. in fact the only thing that will shed light on is what parts are insufficient even for a factory car.

so there is no point to tuning an unmodified car
and secondly HPT costs $650 for the version thats actually worth anything.. why not spend that on something actually worth a damn?

now before its brought up, yes other cars can benefit from tuning in factory trim.. but lets face it.. jbodies don't exactly come with too much bottlenecked power with factory parts. at the very minimum you're going to need a full exhaust, intake and injectors.. thats about $900 right there depending on how you go about it.

As far as I know there isn't really a way to tune a factory 96 computer. I have a 96 myself and other than standalones or a 97 computer swap. Now someone correct me if I am wrong. Please. Most of the time we all are trying to help.

when its an 80, bought for less than $10g'z and had less then $10g'z put into it, its power to dollar ratio is a lot more efficient then your way. and im not sure if you have ever pushed a car with zero handaling ability to its limit and them some, i think 400hp in a car like that is enough to make you a lil nervous....its not a super car, but for less then $20 grand it can run ver low 13's......and people wouldnt pay much attention to a skwirl sitting beside a lion

and theres people here who drive cavs that do better than 13's....so your point?

should i brag about my daddy's cars also?

Re: tuning without spending money?

^^^^ I can outrun my daddy's cars

Damn man... if you gave me a 1980 Corvette (they ran mid to high 16's stock btw)..... 20 grand.... and all the tools I would need... I would get a hell of a lot more than 400hp out of it.

I can't even remember why I'm in this forum anymore........ OH YA... I WAS TRYING TO LEARN SOMETHING!!!!! (i'm just trying to gather as much knowledge as possible so when I actually buy some tuning software.. I'll have a starting point in case your wondering)

To be fair.... in case your wondering if you can tune your Cavy sorta like you can tune an old carburated car with a wrench and screwdriver (which I actually know how to do btw)... the answer is NO.

I believe "Sunfire 2.2" has an empty seat for you in the "I Hate Skwirl" fan club.

And 400 whp is nothing to brag about in ANY vehicle.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.

1 ) Stop bragging about your Mommy and Daddy's Cars

2 ) Your car has an intake

http://www.gmenthusiast.org/forums/read.php?f=41&i=35492&t=35492

3) Learn to check your own Tranny fluid and not "take it in" because you don't know #$@%

4) PJ PWNS J00!

Here is a tidbit of information for you, in those 2 years of High School you weren't able to finish there was something called "English Class."

So did Mr. Smarty Pants put a intake on his car for "fuel savings" ?
Why do you have to take your car into a dealer to check the tranny fluid, did you have them fill the washer fluid while they were at it?

1) who needs english class, im in first year law school

2) my buddy owns a lube place, changed my oil, topped off tranny fluid for a total of $25, saving myself the time and mess was well worth it

3) intake was strictly for a little bit of sound, hp isnt an issue in my car,

but thanx for asking....
