VCM Relocation on 98 Z

Hey guys,
So tell me what you think about relocating my VCM from the passenger side fender well, to inside my car (where it's much safer, drier, cooler...etc).

I think that it was a TERRIBLE idea on GM's part to put such a delicate, important electronic device so close to the road as well as debris, water, snow, mud, tire...etc

I was thinking about lengthening all of the wire (solder) and putting it in my dash, or in front of the console where the two pieces of plastic are...

So let me know if anyone has done this, thought of it, dreamt it.

Dont think it would be worth it.. Its protected by the rubber cover, the fender liners and the bumper.. I dont think you should move it.

Its not delicate, its actually quite a robust piece of equipment. If you are worried about it corroding, sand it down a little bit and hit it with some spray paint. Its designed to run in a warm environment. Its also pretty protected, it would take a pretty good hit to damage it, and if its that large, it probably took out your suspension too.

Well, awhile back I spun out on a paved road doing about 60 and my ps 1/4 panel took the abuse...but so did my front end a lil bit. ps fender was dented, and the splash gaurds were garbage...so the vcm/ecm/pcm whatever you want to call it is just kinda chillin in there, open to the environment....i have it all taped up for now, until I get the gaurds, and panels that broke under my bumper.

but that is why i was thinking about relocating it, just in case something else ever happens, peace of mind...ya know?

It seems as if though all you peeps would concur that I should leave well enough alone...and since I take what most of you say as the last word, I will listen to what you are suggesting.

Thanks a lot guys

PCM stays, maybe just some better coverage (or I need to get those d*mn splash guards back on

Eventualy the PCM on my 02 will be finding its way into the passenger compartment of the car. Rubber splash shield s dont do much for my cars. Had to clean an seal the PCM in my 00 when I had it and the in my 02 as well. 98 is still doing ok for now.

Well, I don't really see the issue with cutting wires, soldering in to-length wires, and re-positioning it.

All that plastic and the rubber cover on the vcm itself, it is pretty well protected though.

If you were referring to a 95 or 96 without the rubber condom around it... then I could see the cause for concern. But, out of the millions of J-cars out there with PCM's in the factory fenderwell spot... I've heard of maybe one or two that have had issues because of weather.

I can think of lots of other things you could do to the car to weatherproof it.
