have some ???'s about hpt tuning n/a

i was wondering about changing the high octane tables to the low octane tables, i read someone doing that and i tried to copy and paste in the other table and it only changed some of them, is this ok? also how do you know which table it runnning or does the pcm do that for you? do you chose which table it runs? i mostly run low octane but for auto cross i run high octane, any help i would like to tune a bit before tomorow 's autocross.

Also my check engine lights keeps coming on for the saem thing, mostly egr stuff how fdo you make sure it donest come on anymore for that? i took the check marks off for all the egr stuff and the egr is disconected yet i get a low voltage and imature code sometihng. i turn it off then the next day it comes on.

how high can you change the a/F ratio? i got about 13 int here and it runs pretty good.
thanks for any help.

It only changes some of them because some of the cells are the same between the two tables.

Oddly enough, the "high octane" and "low octane" tables don't really have anything to do with the octane gas you run. The ECU decides which table to run in (or more accurately which combination of the two tables to run in) by using your knock sensor. When the knock sensor gets "loud", it dials back the timing towards the low octane table. If it doesn't hear anything then it moves timing towards the high octane table.

As for the check engine, make sure ALL the codes dealing with the EGR are unchecked and that they are selected "No MIL Reported".

I wouldn't go very high on the AF ratio. First, that ratio HIGHLY depends on your VE tables being accurate. Second, that AF ratio only takes effect during PE.

Cool man thanks alot its 10..30 now and i might go drag the pc outside to get that done, my buddy was suggesting changing the ve table to about 110 and then smothing the rest of it. i do have a bit of mods like full exhaust and intake and the secret cams what do you think man?

^ You can't just arbitrarily change the VE table, it requires tuning, which means going out and doing some data logs, then change the table based on the results. Just picking a number out of the top of your head will result in really bad results.

shifted, why did you have to go and ruin all the fun....

shifted is right. you need to do some serious logging before monkeying around with this thing. and he is right in his explanation of the low to high octane table transition. personally, i wouldnt bother running the high octane just for an autocross event, your really not going to gain much by just doing it for the day. i fined it takes my cavalier a few days of driving to opperate right after being tuned.

pick an octane and tune for that... thats your best decision.

...no guys you just change the numbers and make like 200whp, tuning N00bs!

On serious note, do not touch fuel w/o a wideband

there isnt anything wrong with touching your fuel trims and octane tables without the wideband, but the wideband makes it easier by taking out the guess work for your a/f ratio.

you just have to know what your doing, log everything, make little changes with an educated guess. its the "shot in the dark" changes you dont want to try... ever!

thanks guys, i do have a wideband but im too lazy to install it. One more thing i read your suppost to not rewrite the whole ecu and just update it sort of? on sunday after autocross i noticed my speedo flutuated very crazyly three times from like 120 to 0 three times while cruising, then the day after the cruise control went off by itself and on the way home from work the cruise was pulsing to go faster. i changed the top speed to 150 miles but the rest of week its been fine?

my cavi pretty old but sometimes still surprises me, which i could get bit more n/a power.

its possible you are having a problem with your VSS. i have read about the spedo pulse and the cruise thing before, but i dont remember what the outcome was. search around the forums as i know it was posted up before.

I guess it dpends on what your doing. If you are adding fuel (not taking fuel away) then that is safer than trying to lean a car out without a wideband. Spark tables if you are logging KR then you at least have a idea of how the car is running, but no idea if you are gaining or losing power.
