Diagnostic Software
Sunday, September 30, 2007 5:32 PM
I've done a bit of searching but can't really seem to find anything for what I'm looking for. I've been looking around for some diagnostic software that will read ABS codes for the Chevy Cavalier. I'm driving a 1997 Cavy 2.2L. A friend of mine has Auto Ingenuity which advertises that it can read any car and he got the upgraded GM package that is supposed to read ABS codes but it can't pick them up. In fact the software is kind of so crappy it can't even recognize my 2003 Saturn Vue. For some reason it thinks it's a Hummer.

Does anyone know of diagnostic software that will read my ABS codes? Or will I have to buy a special scan tool that costs way more than my car is worth?

Thanks!

Justin

if you are going to buy a scan tool only to read ABS codes this one time than you may as well take it to GM and let them use the GM TEC2 scan tool or to another independant shop that can read abs codes, HPT reads brake codes..

Does HPT read all codes for the Cavalier? Also, will it read everything else for GM vehicles? I guess I need to go check out their site.

Thanks.

Looks like HP Tuners is a little much for what I'm really looking for. Basically I'm looking for a very good all around Diagnostic tool that will work on most vehicles and perhaps a little better on my Cavalier. I'd really like something that can read most ABS codes.

Thanks!

scan tools that read abs codes are ridiculously expensive. i'd be surprised if you could get one or the cost of hpt pro...

I meant a little much as in has way too many features. I'm not really looking for anything to do tuning. I'll have to see how much the HPT Diagnostics thing costs when they finally release it.

Thanks for the replies.

Sorry to bring this topic back from the dead... I've still been searching around for answers... Can anybody tell me for sure that Auto Tap will get these codes for me? Does anyone have any experience with AutoEnginuity?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info Rich. A year ago when I posted this I didn't think it'd be worth it to spend that much on HP Tuners. I continue to look through all the features and I'm considering buying it now. Not only will I be able to do all kinds of diagnostics but I'll also be able to tune for fuel economy and keep my engine running good.

Why not spend the $100 and have a dealer do it? If you want a scan tool the read everything then your going to have to spend a chunk of change. How about a Snap-on genesis or a snap-on Modis? The genesis is $3500 and the Modis is $8000. They will read enough codes from acuras to euro cars, enough to make my head hurt. Im saving for one right now, but waiting until school is over.

If I'm going to spend $100 I figure why not spend a couple extra hundred and have good software for diagnosing any issues I might have. My car is getting up there in the mileage department with 140,000 miles. It's bound to start having issues eventually.

you can get an elm 327 scanner onebay for like $65 shipped, software is free, and it hooks up via usb to your laptop (which you would need for hpTuners anyway...). i have one, works better than the $150 actron unit i bought.
