How to? A/F ratio guage in an old porshe?

A guy i know needs a way to tune his carbs on his porshe. i got to thinking and would it work to put a wideband in the exhaust (or regular cheapy o2) hook soley to an a/f guage? this is a 71 porshe so there is no electronics and no existing o2 sensor, i just need to know if will work to get a tune to his carbs and he also wants to be able to monitor the a/f while he is driving, will it work? how would this be able to hook up?

please help.

well, a wideband A/F gauge is the way to go if you're looking at fine-tuning. a regular O2 sensor with an A/F gauge is nothing more than a pretty light on your dashboard. go with something like this:
