so i down shifted to third and tapped the gas a few times
in the end, it was sad for him.
my gf behind me in her stock 03 cavalier kept up better than him

I Fist Econo-box's all the time... its not even really worth the mention. Its just so bad.
350Z's, Stang GT's, SRT's, etc is where the 'line of recognition' begins. Anything slower then mid 14's doesnt even get acknowledged that they just got Pumped.

I've done that a couple times when someone has really just pissed me off & i'm out to demoralize them
Normally i won't even think about doing anything with any car, let alone with a slower car unless i hear something that makes me wonder; i.e. BOV, or blower whine. It's just not worth loosing my license to me, or at minimum paying a huge fine for something that i know i'll destroy if i do drop the hammer

well of course a modded one silly, a stock one aint @!#$ compared to a gto.
but they are pretty easy to get some horses out of.
to be honest, i'd try... not because i think i'm faster... but because all the people in my area with vettes, gto's, etc. just cruise in them. i'd like to see a gto in action in person.
well i guess only the turbo ones, there are too many non-turbo dsm's plaguing the streets.
