Scruf's boss's Duramax is having issues, and i'm hoping you GM folks can help. it's a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 4wd with towing package...6.6 duramax diesel, 39kish miles.
the issue is regarding the trans(it seems...). they'll be driving along the road, regardless of weather, and the truck will suddenly kick into a 2k RPM rev limiter of sorts. no warning lights, nothing lights up on the dash...it just happens without any real reason. when Eric turns the truck off and restart it'll rev up to redline like it would normally, but still won't go over 2k rpms.
does this sound "normal" to anyone? any idea on what causes this?

2004 with 39k miles... take it to the dealer should have a warranty on it.
usually waranties are to 36k
sounds like a sensor is loose or messed up
other cars, better cars?
shoulda bought the extended
a - it's not my truck, so don't be chuckling at me for any warranty crap.
b - Sappy, thanks for the suggestion. i'll pass the word(unless Scruf checks this thread when he gets to his hotel).

Hot or cold?? Not a diesel expert but is it possible the trans temps or exhaust temps are getting too hot and the engine is going into a self preserve mode??
AFAIK there is no pyrometer on any stock Diesel, Powerstroke, Duramax or Cummins so the computer wouldn't know the EGTs. It's possible the tranny temperature is getting too hot, but that would normally bring up a message in the Driver Info Center, or a warning light.
Only thing I can think of is the sensor like Sappy said.
Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
i ended up asking a buddy of mine who works on them slightly frequently...he thinks it might be the computer, since the automatic is controlled by the computer(just like the engine).
soooo we're going to go with that.
