That a Vauxhall version of the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky is in the works is nothing new. What is: GM has confirmation of a supercharged high-output engine for the 2007 Vauxhall Lightning as well as Solstice and Sky.
Jon Lauckner, General Motors’ global product planning boss, says the Vauxhall two-seater will come to market with a 2.0-liter supercharged four-cylinder. The engine is expected to produce in excess of 200 hp and peak torque of 200 lb-ft, according to GM. Look for the boosted engine in Solstice and Sky late next year.

I wish they were slapping a turbo on that instead.
oh well, driving around in one of those with a blower on it will be fun too.
Have a good one,
Justin
score one for the supercharger!
though it does make me sad. i was lookin forward to a production turbo again. im a supercharger guy through and through. but sometimes, turbo's are just cooler

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,
3" exhaust, flomatched injectors
'97 GTP 14.06@100.6mph pre cam w/ 3.5" pulley, I/E
that's kinda crappy. i mean, i'm all for blowers, but a small car like that does not need a @!#$ load of bottom-end power.
GM drops the FARKIN ball AGAIN
guess the only good thing is the 2.0 s/c put over 200 hp to the ground
tell me who at GM i gotta kick in the nut sack , and itll be done , then ill take his job , and spin GM in the right direction
well you gotta imagine that they already had the 2.0 supercharged and it's alot cheaper to slap that into the cars than re-engineer a turbo motor/kit.
I ain't callin u a gold digga,but you ain't messin wit a broke cracka
all they gotta do is make the kit ecofire, the motor ias in the 2.0 sc'd cars... lsj I believe
LE61T PTE6262 Powered
i wouldnt be suprised if they up the hp tho
well the car is meant for auto x and such where a flater tq curve will help
other cars, better cars?

I know they already have the motor but you gotta think......they got to make a reliable turbo kit and find a way tp produce it cheaply.
And hell I think they are down right scared to turbo anything that's not diesel.

Well, GM has the 2.0L Turbo from the 03+ Saab 9-3, HO version with 210HP, which is basically the same platform as the LSJ. So the Turbo Eco is there.

It would be nice to see a trubo car from gm but im quite happy that they are finaly giving the 4 bangers a change by realsing a s/c kits for thier cars...i can actuly say it......good job gm your startin to finaly get on the right path
phil , they have to redesign the s/c to fit in the slostice
look at these pics of the 2.0 s/c , youll see how far out the inlet is , it will run right into the firewall on the solstice
cant really tell w/o a pic of the solstice engine bay to compare
other cars, better cars?
I could have sworn that the original concept that was built was supercharged and it fit quite nicely in the engine bay
Of course I could be mistaken, that was over 3 years ago or so
................Which car will hit 400 whp first???................
I'm guessing one good reason for going S/C instead of turbo would be that these cars are more handling oriented than straight line, and theres nothing that would kill your power through a sharp curve more than turbo lag. (compared to a supercharger) My $.02

actually the Saturn Sky is vauxhall's US Front engine counterpart to the vx 220. SO they already have the turbo system for the car, its just currently in a mid-engine configuration.
If it's anything like the vx200, it will be a major autox competitor. As it currently stands the Solstice is going to get a lot of competition from the MX-5 Primarily do to the available 6-speed currently available as an option, the 2.4 doesn't rev as quickly as the Miata's 1.8.

^^
the vx 220 has an iron block for the turbo version
and arent the vauxhaull and opel speedster hard tops?
other cars, better cars?
i think gm dropped the ball on this one too... when your competition is turbo'd, why go with a supercharger? they did it with the cobalt ss and now they are gonna do it with the sky/solstice. the mazdaspeed miata is turbo'd and i don't seem to remember any magazines complaining about the lack of low end power... turbo lag is not an issue with a properly matched turbo...
because of the linear power
in autox and such you consistantly need torque or need to be revving sky high
and as far as turbo lag, you also have to consider gearing

Agreed ... but why didnt they S/C the 2.4 eco?
