Any CRX owners out there had this problem?

Hello everyone,

I'm not sure how many of you are on this forum, but I have seen references to this car posted in this forum, so I will ask anyway. I just bought a 1985 Honda CRX Si to learn how to work on cars (without the fear of screwing something up on my Z24) and to learn how to drive a stick (without fear of screwing someone else's car up).

Last night, I had The Club antitheft device on it. Overnight, the weight of the club caused the steering wheel to shift to the right. Today before I started it, I tried to crank the wheel back, just to see if it was loose, or would move back. Well when I did that, it somehow caused the ignition switch to move into the steering column and lock up.

I had to brake the casing around the steering column to shift it back into place. I also could not turn the key to start it. Eventually someone came and helped me with it and somehow got the key to turn, and then I could start it and drive away. I then drove it over 100 miles back home with no problems.

As far as not being able to turn the key, is there some kind of anti-theft system on these vehicles that got activated? I didn't see anything in the owner's manual about it.

BTW, anyone got me beat on mileage? My CRX has 339,6XX miles.

Thanks

might have been the steering wheel lockin that caused your key not to turn. Simply turn the wheel in the free direction (the only direction it can move from a rest) until it stops turning, then turn the key (there might be a little resistance). This happened to a few of my friends, they thought their car was f***ed. This happened to my cavalier too, except the wheel was all the way to the left, so I had to force the wheel out of the lock to turn the key.

My CRX, however has not had many problems, but I've never used a club on it. mine's an 84, poorly maintained before i got it (you should see all the rust :s)
