Need a new car/suv... ANY Suggestions?
Friday, September 16, 2005 3:35 PM
I am currently looking for a new car. I have had 5 cars in 5 years. And the car I am currently driving is past due. (almost a year of driving it).

The cars I am looking at are as follows: (in no specific order)

1999 BMW 740 il
1999 Audi A6 (non-quattro)
1999 Lexus LS 400
2002 Volvo S40 and S60
2001 BMW 540 i
2000-2003 Cadillac DeVille DHS or DTS
2003 Cadillac CTS
2000 MB C280
2000 MB E320
1999 MB S420
1999-2003 Jag. XJ8/ XJR/ X Type/ S Type

I think that is all the cars....

SUV's:

1999-2003 Ford Expedition
1999-2003 Lincoln Navigator
1999-2002 Cadillac Escalade
1999-2002 Chevy Suburban
1999-2002 GMC Yukon Denali

any suggestions?

any info about repairs and what not would help out too.....

thank you for viewing...

Since you are looking for used, I would avoid German at all costs. If you must... get it with a extended bumber to bumper warranty.
I would personally look from your options..

2000-2003 Cadillac DeVille DHS or DTS
2003 Cadillac CTS
1999 Lexus LS 400
2002 Volvo S40 and S60

&
From your SUVs list I would go with GM. One reason only, with gas prices high, GM large SUVs are a little better in MPG then FoMoCo SUVs.

Just remember with SUVs you will pay out the ass to fill them up. With gas prices right now look to spend around $80 to fill up.

I for one would take the Lexus or the CTS

+1 all the way around. Depending on the SUV, you can bump that price to fill up even higher. Not to mention you will be filling it up more often than a car.

Personally an SUV is the last thing i would look at buying right now. Gas prices aren't going down any time soon.

Am I the only person getting tired of the whole SUV\v8 gas guzzling thing? If he can afford the vehicles on his list, he can afford to fill them with gas. So why even mention it? He wouldn't be looking at them if he didn't want them.

Just because an SUV is the last thing YOU would be looking at means nothing. He is looking for a vehicle for himself, not for you.

Now, to answer the question originally asked, I would go for the Escalade for an SUV, or the CTS for a car. MMM, I love Cadillac's.

My Dad had an Escalade EXT, he actually just sold it and got a 2005 STS. It was a really nice truck, very comfortable on long drives.

He's asking for our opinion on these and why....Thats exactly what most of us our giving. Just because YOU don't want to hear the gas side, doesn't mean its not something which shouldn't be mentioned. There is a significant difference between something getting 12 mpg....to something getting 28.

actually, you'd think that with gas prices high, less people are buying the suv's and trucks causing their prices to drop a bit... if you were gonna get an suv, it'd probably be a good time to do it (all of this is assuming you have the money to handle the gas costs)

how much are all of you paying for gas?

its only $2.67 here in columbus ohio....if u got o the rights places

and the reason 'WE' (me and my fiance) want to get an suv is simple....

kids..... dont wanna have a Elantra driving around the kids now do we?

i dunno though, the more i look at the DeVille I want one even more.

we shall see i guess

any other opinions???

^^ WOW!
$2.67, thats cheap.
Having a turbo = I have to use 93.
With the usual increase of 10 cents, that puts premium still under $3 there. Thats pretty good! In most places in NH, ME, and MA, its still just under $3 for regular....like 2.97 or so. No. East in general is still paying pretty high.

I'm also not knocking SUV's. I like some of them, but it is getting more expensive. Still 100x's better than a minivan!

yeah, my mother suggested a minivan

i hate minivans

anyone else?

My friend and his dad both have escalades, one of each, the EXT and the regular suv (can't remember what they actually call them) and they both love them. My mom had a 4Runner in 96, *a V8* and it wasn't too horrible on gas, and I am getting ready to get an 06 4Runner, so I've seen many many people with SUVs, have a great time in your caddy!

It's a four banger, you gotta bang it four times to get it goin'....
