General Motors will end its "employee pricing" sales promotion on Sept. 30, The Wall Street Journal reported.
GM has notified its dealers in an internal broadcast that it will replace the successful deal with "Total Value Promise" pricing, a new strategy based on lower prices rather than discounts.
Under the new plan, GM will set prices for its 2006 models that are closer to what the company thinks customers will actually pay.
The "value promise" strategy will result in price increases, however. For example, the base, employee price of a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe 4X4 LT is $38,435; under the "value promise model," the base price is $46,265.
